Key-Whitman Eye Center is Hiring an Optician Near Dallas, TX

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Optician is to work collaboratively with the clinic physicians by assisting clients with fittings for eyeglasses and contact lenses in accordance with the prescription. This position requires excellent customer service skills and efficient communication with patients, physicians and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule, demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the Optician include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Measure clients’ bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance and optical centers of eyes using measuring devices.
  • Assist clients in selecting frames that coordinate with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
  • Recommend eyeglass frames, lenses and lens coatings and sell sunglasses and other goods related to their optical needs in general.
  • Obtain customers previous records to assist in re-making glasses or lenses
  • Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses
  • Verify lenses have been ground to specification
  • Reshape frame to fit customer properly and comfortably
  • Fix, adjust and refit broken frames
  • Educate clients about adapting to, wearing and caring for their eyeglasses
  • Educate clients on inserting, removing and caring for contact lenses
  • Maintain records of customer prescriptions, work orders and payments.
  • Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales and submitting patient insurance information
  • Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • Some optical experience preferred, ABO certified desirable but not required
  • Ability to operate lensometers and other equipment
  • Manual dexterity and ability to do precision work
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy
  • Create and provide a positive, accountable and inspired work environment
  • Well organized and attentive to detail
