QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of the principles of preventive maintenance and methods of lubricating and servicing buses, trucks and cars; knowledge of automotive parts and terminology used in mechanical repair and maintenance work; knowledge of the use of machine and hand tools used in servicing and minor repair work; knowledge of the safe use and care of tools and equipment used to perform upholstery, glass and tire repair. Must possess the skill to understand and follow oral and written instructions; effectively inspect and detect major mechanical vehicle problems requiring mechanical repair; perform minor body and paint work; maintain accurate records and logs; effectively service mechanical equipment and demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; perform other related duties as required. MUST POSSESS THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A VALID CLASS “A” CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.MUST SUBMIT A RECENT DMV (3 YEAR MINIMUM) DRIVING RECORD WITH APPLICATION. One year automotive servicing experience and the ability to meet physical requirements of the job is necessary. A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. DUTIES OF POSITION: To inspect, lubricate, service, wash, and fuel District buses and other vehicles and equipment; to repair or replace upholstery, window glass, tires, and to assist mechanics in the semi skilled maintenance and repair work. Employees in this classification receive direct to general supervision from the Transportation Supervisor or his/her designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class is responsible for maintaining safe vehicle operating conditions and assisting mechanics with routine servicing of District vehicles and equipment. STARTING SALARY: $3,642.72 (monthly) NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible) NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.)
