Level I: Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university,
AND one (1) year of directly related commercial construction experience.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the necessary knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Coursework in Construction or Construction Management is preferred. Qualifying experience would be commercial construction experience such as a Construction Superintendent or Construction Manager at the General Contractor or Developer level.
Level II: Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university, AND two (2) years experience equivalent to a Construction Project Inspector I, OR five (5) years of directly related commercial construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the necessary knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Coursework in Construction or Construction Management is preferred. Qualifying experience would be commercial construction experience such as a Construction Superintendent or Construction Manager at the General Contractor or Developer level.
Level III: Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university, AND two (2) years experience an equivalent to a Construction Project Inspector II, OR six (6) years of directly related commercial construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the necessary knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Qualifying experience would be commercial construction experience such as a Construction Superintendent or Construction Manager at the General Contractor or Developer level.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Possess and maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License.
SOME POSITIONS REQUIRE:
Level III: Possess and maintain certification as a Commercial Building Inspector from the International Code Council. Possession of Office of State Health Planning & Development (OSHPD), Class A Certification can be substituted to meet this qualification, but candidate must obtain Commercial Building Inspector certification by the International Code Council (ICC) within six (6) months probation period to maintain appointment. This ICC certification must be continuously maintained to continue employment in this classification.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:
- Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Combination Inspector awarded by the International Code Council.
- Class A Certification awarded by the Office of State Health Planning & Development (OSHPD).

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
