Description
The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Desktop Systems Support Specialist in the Office of Computing and Information Technology. This position is nonpartisan and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment. The individual selected for this position must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and be public service oriented with the ability to maintain a good rapport with LRC staff, state employees, and the general public. The individual must be able to work under stress, with the understanding that during legislative sessions and occasionally during the interim period, working significant amounts of overtime will be required. This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hrs/week) with benefits including health and life insurance; retirement plan; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with prior approval. Job Duties:
Provide daily computer assistance to LRC staff and legislators.
Receive and respond to requests for computer assistance in a timely manner.
Document all service interactions in a logging or ticketing system.
Deliver, setup, troubleshoot, and repair computer hardware.
Install and update software.
Virus and malware removal.
Printer configuration, repair, and maintenance.
Assist with tablets, smartphones, projectors, and other devices.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
Fundamental understanding of local area network components, peripheral devices, and systems.
Beginning knowledge of service desk concepts, practices, and procedures.
Beginning knowledge of network components, workstations, and software products.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Customer service skills.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and detail-oriented skill set.
Ability to work under pressure and meet specific deadlines.
Ability to resolve routine problems with written instructions and/or supervision.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Ability to understand and uphold the strict confidential nature of legislative work.
Ability to uphold expectations of a nonpartisan staff member.
Ability to work extended hours as needed..
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Associates degree in computer science or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: CompTIA A certification preferred.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Experience in computer support services may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
