Job Description
General Nature of Work
The purpose of this classification is to perform general and specialized accounting work involving the application of bookkeeping principles and maintenance of the City's fiscal records.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
•Perform accounting functions for assigned accounts and reports; enter and post financial data; prepare and approve journal entries; reconcile accounts; balance report; calculate data and enter data into computer systems; research errors and make corrections as required; generate reports; maintain financial records; prepare tax forms; and submit mandatory reports.
•Maintain accounting records for various City funds; analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and appropriateness of transactions; review cash receipts and deposits, as well as journal, for accuracy; perform monthly closeout of general ledger.
•Assist in recommending and implementing financial procedures, including audit procedures; review efficiency and effectiveness of financial methods, processes, and procedures; make recommendations for improvements; provide technical assistance to other employees regarding financial and audit procedures.
•Perform cash flow analysis and comprehensive review of City funds; review account balances; verify money transfers; review cash deposit receipts; ensure deposits made to proper accounts; assist with yearly cash flow projections; maintain related files and documentation.
•Assist auditors in completing the annual/periodic audits; determine accrual balances; compile data for notes and schedules; review all general ledger and sub ledger entries for accuracy; obtain information, retrieve records, prepare reports, and provide other assistance as needed for auditors.
•Participate in special projects as assigned; research, compile, and prepare reports; analyze data and make recommendations; assist in making financial decisions; serve on committees; submit all mandated reports to regulatory agencies or others as required.
•Assist in preparing the annual budget; participate in forecasting revenues, capital requirements and cash flow management for all funds; compare data and recommend appropriate adjustments; check, balance and verify completed budget requests; provide technical and analytical support as needed; proofread completed budget for printing.
•Communicate with supervisor, City employees, banking personnel, auditors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
•Prepare or complete various forms, report, correspondence, budget spreadsheets, financial statements, general ledger spreadsheets, trend reports, or other documents.
•Receive various forms, report, correspondence, journal entries, bank statements, deposit slips, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; review, complete, process, forward or retain as appropriate.
•Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintain an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
•Operate a personal computer, general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; supplemented by governmental accounting; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Physical Requirements: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
