GENERAL NATURE OF WORK
The purpose of this classification is to educate andprovide valuable experience to students who have a passion for public service,and would like to pursue a career in local government.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for thisposition. The omission of specific statements of the duties does notexclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or alogical assignment for this classification.
SPECIFIC PROJECT ASSIGNMENT
·Teen Summer Program, Programming, FrontDesk - will have exposure to the operations of our Teen Summer Program, willlearn how third party contractors work in the recreation programmingenvironment and work at the front desk to experience the front line of ourcustomer service and work alongside our team members. Working at the front deskat any organization is the greatest learning experience we can give the intern.They will learn how we are planning for the next season of programming while weare executing the current season.
·Camp Venture, Splash Pad, AdultBasketball - will have exposure to the operations of our Camp Venture and theSplash Pad as well as what it takes to put on a sports league through adultbasketball. Their involvement will be from the administration side of our camp,not working as a counselor. They will assist in the planning, budgeting andexecution of various activities for the campers. The intern will be paired withone of our Splash Pad employees for customer service training as well.
·Salute to America - will work the Saluteto America event on July 3 and will meet with the Event Coordinators once aweek leading up to the event. They will be involved with planning, budgeting,set-up, execution and post event discussions.
·Administration - will shadowthe Director and/or Assistant Director, meeting with them once a week. Throughthese meetings the intern will have exposure to the parks side of thedepartment, budgeting, marketing and goal setting. They would also be able toprovide an outside viewpoint on our operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the postedposition must be able to perform the essential functions of the position withor without a reasonable accommodation.
Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability toexert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involvesome lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials oflight weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at akeyboard or work station.
WorkEnvironment: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposureto adverse environmental conditions.
