GENERAL NATURE OF WORK

The purpose of this classification is to educate andprovide valuable experience to students who have a passion for public service,and would like to pursue a career in local government. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for thisposition. The omission of specific statements of the duties does notexclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or alogical assignment for this classification. 

  • Understands the overall vision and mission of the city, including the brand, service to the citizens/general public, and all other aspects of service.
  • Rotates through the assigned department and learn responsibility and provides innovative ideas to grow and improve the city.
  • Accepts designated, city-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final project during the internship.
  • Engages with citizens or other city employees and provides service.
  • Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes.
  • Learns and becomes proficient on internal software systems as needed

SPECIFIC PROJECT ASSIGNMENT

  • Assist education staff with programs including weekly early childhood programs, week long elementary aged camps, and museum wide adult programs.
  • Assist education staff in planning and implementation of two week long summer camp experiences – one of which goes through the process of creating a model train layout and the other of which is STEM based study on simple machines.
  • Assist museum staff members with museum wide Civil War History day set up and event day activities, as well as planning and preparing activities for museum wide Railroad Rendezvous event. Participate in creating activity materials and set up.
  • Participate in training with education staff to gain knowledge concerning museum topics and exhibits and how best to present topics to museum guests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently in college either undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Passion for service in the public sector

ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the postedposition must be able to perform the essential functions of the position withor without a reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability toexert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involvesome lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials oflight weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at akeyboard or work station.

Work Environment: Essential functions areregularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
