Description
The position will be responsible for following the direction given by the Director of Dining to assist with the execution of Race Meets, Sales and Special Events, while also assisting with the execution of the Dining Rooms and Special Events during their seasons.
The ideal Dining / Special Event Manager must be able to work nights and weekends throughout the year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but may not be limited to the following:
  • Assists with the execution of Race Meets, Sales and Special Events as instructed by the Director of Dining:
    • These items include, but may not be limited to executing daily operations, managing staff to execute functions, as well as planning, problem solving and delegating tasks.
  • Understands the impact event services have on the overall success of an event and manages activities to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Supports the Dining Team as instructed by the Director of Dining.
  • Assist the Director of Dining in preparing various dining room operation guidelines and manage them accordingly.
  • Attend and participate in all pertinent meetings (e.g., Daily Stand Ups, BEO, Pre-Cons, Staffing, Departmental and Intradepartmental)
  • Collaborates with Dining team to hire and place staff for seasonal operations.
  • Leads shifts and actively participate in servicing the dining rooms.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, counsel, review performance and discipline staff.
  • Respond to and handles guest problems and complaints.
  • Work with departmental leads to execute Race Meet, Sales, and Special Events for specific areas and events.
  • Follows and supports enforcement of all Keeneland Hospitality policies and procedures.
  • All other duties assigned.
SPECIAL EVENTS
  • Special Events Manager Able to execute a Special Event from start to finish in all aspects.
  • Assist and sometimes lead in planning and execution of meetings and Special Events.
  • Responsible for assigning part time managers and/or staff tasks to execute Special Events.
  • Creates an atmosphere in all event management operations that meets or exceeds guest expectations.
  • Conducts regular walk-throughs of Special Event areas to ensure quality standards and client satisfaction.
  • Assists in developing working relationships with outside vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on customer service, guest experience, and communicating effectively with Clients, Media, and Support Staff.
  • Must have a polished and professional demeanor while working well under pressure.
  • Has excellent time management and organizational skills and treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and effectively delegate with the ability to manage and hold staff accountable.
  • Ability to build, refine and implement standard operating procedures and systems and show excellent decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to effectively manage full time and seasonal employees (up to 50 ).
  • Has clear and direct communication skills, attention to detail, and holds themselves to a high level of integrity.
  • Is a strong leader and has as the ability to motivate a team.
  • Must have the stamina to work 50 to 60 hours per week when needed. Commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals / execute events.
    • This includes but is not limited to, nights, weekends, and some days exceeding 10 hours..
    • Position requires being on feet, walking for long periods of time in a fast-paced environment, and moving through large crowds.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred. Hospitality degree is a plus.
  • Minimum three years in front-of-the-house operations and/or management experience in event management, food and beverage, or related professional area.
  • Training in major hotel or restaurant chain, a plus.
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite; catering programs; P.O.S. systems (Micros expertise preferred), projectors, screens, etc.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be proficient in English, other languages, a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A Kentucky Horse Racing Authority License is required for all track workers. License obtained upon hire and provided by Keeneland.
