Purpose: The Vice President of Risk Management is responsible for managing risk for the organization as it relates to operations & project management, health & safety, human resources, legal and estimating while maintaining KCI Core Values and protecting company assets by minimizing liability exposures.

Accountable for:

• Recommend and implement risk management strategies, policies, protocols, and solutions that are compliant with safety legislation and regulations and industry practices, including safety and security policies and business continuity plans.• Conduct risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends.• Develop and administer risk management program, including analyzing & modeling loss prevention programs.• Promote organization-wide understanding of risk and risk management strategies.• Develop, review and analyze loss control and trending indicators, and coordinate with Health & Safety Department to develop appropriate action plans.• Develop strategies and establish policies and procedures to identify and address Company risks in partnership with internal / external legal counsel and outside brokers.• Utilize extensive knowledge of legal issues and insurance markets and trends to advise on organizational liability.• Recommendations concerning all insurance programs, including any captives, to allow the Company to take advantage of current best practice risk mitigation strategies in the industry.• Implement and manage all annual and project specific insurance programs and serve as primary point of contact for the Company's insurance brokers and consultants.• Review, initiate and ensure appropriate insurance coverage for all estimated projects and acquired projects, including project specific requirements.• Assist with yearly budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting, including analysis of premiums, financial performance of insurance programs and determination of premium allocations.• Develop, refine and communicate insurance and risk metrics within the organization.• Provide guidance and support for loss prevention matters to ensure an open, proactive, and effective risk management culture.• Assist Operational Safety Department with investigation of incidents that may result in an asset loss.• Manage company Crisis Management Plan. Work with I.T. and Health & Safety Department to ensure all potential risks are addressed. Develop and coordinate at least two crisis simulations per year.• Analyze and assist with owner or contractor prequalification processes.• Develop and administer subcontractor prequalification processes.• Work with Finance and I.T. Departments to perform risk assessments and mitigate.• Management of all company legal suits, and all insurance claims over $1 million.• Manage all aspects of owner contract and subcontract review as related to payment terms, insurance and bond liability, and risk assumption by all parties. Establish process for contracting policies that align with risk management objectives.• Work closely with the legal counsel on owner/subcontract contract language issues, claims management, etc. in order to reduce reliance on outside legal counsel to largest extent possible.• Procure Payment & Performance Bonds with new contracts as necessary.• Assist Training & Development Coordinator to develop plan & implement yearly education of project management staff on company risk and management of same.• Assist Health & Safety Department with fleet driver safety & education.• Support Preconstruction Department to ensure PO, SL and Vendor Compliance in system.• Represent the organization at industry safety groups and programs.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Risk Management, Business Administration or Legal is desired.• Insurance, Risk Management, Surety, Construction finance experience a plus.• At least 10 years of risk management experience in the construction or related industry.• Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills.• High degree of professionalism and strong work ethic.• Effective time management skills.• Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.• Proficiency in OSHA and DOT regulations required.• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

• Work is normally performed in a typical office environment, but occasionally on construction jobsites.• The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.• Some exposure to physical risk while visiting jobsites.• Noise level in the office environment is usually quiet, but on-site might have higher levels of noise.• While performing the duties of this role, employee will be required to sit, talk, and listen.• Employee is occasionally required stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel.• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
