POSITION TITLE: Nurse (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse)
SALARY: Hourly position dependent upon qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.

SCHEDULE: Full-time and overnight; 10 months per year; this position may require attendance at special events outside of normal working hours

The role of a School Nurse at the Kansas School for the Deaf (KSD) is to provide care and health services in a 24-hour campus-based health center to residential and day students who are deaf/hard of hearing. Using appropriate language skills with deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals, internally and externally is an essential function of this position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing required (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse); Kansas licensure required or the ability to obtain Kansas licensure. Registered nurse or LPN licensed in the State of Kansas. Current CPR certification and current driver’s license. At least 1 year of nursing experience in a clinical or education setting, pediatric or adolescent experience preferred, but not required. Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) or a serious desire to learn. ASL and English skills will be assessed. Knowledge of social-emotional and developmental needs of DHH students; awareness of Deaf culture; ability to apply principles of bilingual education with DHH students in a health setting; ability to make proper responses to safety/health concerns.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All offers of employment from Kansas School for the Deaf (KSD) are contingent upon background check results and any applicable workplace references. Background checks are completed via the KS Bureau of Investigation, Backgrounds Plus consents, Kansas Department of Children and Family Services, and Dru Sjodin National Sexual Offender Registry. KSD may contact previous employers for workplace references. Within 30 days of employment, a tuberculosis test (and any applicable treatment), as well as a health certificate must be completed by a medical provider at the cost of the employee.
