Summary:
The Senior Developer and Systems Analyst is responsible for advanced development and support for in-house developed applications, systems integration and creating new applications. The Senior Developer will also continuously improve the reliability and usability of systems while also ensuring proper data governance for Michigan DataHub and our partners. The ideal candidate will possess an extensive understanding of UI/UX design, software programming, database management, SQL scripting, data integration and systems integration. The Senior Developer is also the database subject matter expert, will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation, and focus on infrastructure-as-code and automation solutions. The successful candidate must be innovative, value teamwork and have excellent communication and customer service skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the ongoing development, support/maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements of in-house applications in a lead role
- Participate in the software development process, which includes design sessions, go-live support, training, and regular project management meetings.
- Creates and implements standard operating procedures that improve information system management, including security and process improvements
- Development and optimization of the interchange between Michigan DataHub and K12 developed information systems
- Ensure proper data governance, including data availability, usability, integrity, security, and compliance with HIPPA and FERPA requirements
- Monitors and employs source code control techniques and configuration management
- Performs testing of software to ensure proper operation and conformance to test plans
- Assist the data team in identifying and resolving production and/or application development problems related to the use of the database management system software or utilities
- Utilize and support Amazon Web Services; Support database systems with high use APIs
- Interpret and utilize statistical data to inform query tuning and optimization
- Maintain accurate system documentation
- Willing to work overtime and on-call as necessary to meet organizational needs
- Other duties as assigned
Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Kalamazoo RESA handbook
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or commensurate experience
- 7 years of application programming in multiple languages
- 5 years administering/tuning Microsoft SQL Server or Postgres
- 2 years Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Certificates, License, Registration:
- Microsoft, AWS, and Information Security are preferred
- Maintain Scrum Master Certification are preferred
