The Career and Technical Education (CTE) School Counselor will provide continuity care to all students in Career and Technical Education programs at the Career Connect Campus and related satellite sites to support an inclusive, accessible, safe, and welcoming environment for all students. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling as well as emergency assistance to students in need; provide outreach to prospective students regarding programs; and career planning guidance to current CTE students in countywide programs. The CTE counselor will support students’ access and exposure to world-class CTE programs of study and related opportunities so that students are equipped to excel and succeed in their chosen path. The CTE counselor will model KRESA’s core values and uphold KRESA’s anti-bias, anti-racist (ABAR) commitments. In collaboration with teammates across the Campus and broader Career Connect team, the counselor will support local district awareness of programming and build support for the overall career awareness and preparation strategy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support KRESA anti-bias, anti-racism commitments, prioritizing equitable opportunity, program representation, and support for all students
  • Support and promote our brand and marketing strategies to attract and retain students, parents, and partners across the county
  • Model and scaffold the KRESA mindset of continuous improvement, innovation, and together is better
  • Support and assist countywide CTE students with their career development needs in career awareness, exploration, assessment, and exposure through different campus-wide career programs
  • Guide students through making decisions with post-secondary plans aligned with their personality, interest, skills, values, and labor market data
  • Provide academic, personal, and career counseling services aligned with industry best practice and emerging trends
  • Monitor and track students' academic progress to ensure attainment of educational and career goals
  • Assist CTE staff with the use of positive behavior supports and behavior interventions
  • Collaborate with KRESA CTE staff on responding, monitoring, and collecting data on behavior incidents, crises
  • Mediate disputes between students and students, students and parents, and students and instructors
  • Analyze and utilize Xello student data to develop outreach strategies to increase non-traditional enrollment in CTE programming
  • Collaborate with the Student Services team to plan career guidance, professional development, and promotional activities related to CTE components for county high school and middle school counselors
  • Attend IEP meetings for CTE students as needed
  • Utilize area support services for CTE students and families
  • Create, develop, and maintain positive, professional relationships with sending school counselors
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum skills and education required:
Master’s Degree (M.A. or M.S.)
A minimum of three years teaching or counseling experience
Experience providing professional development
Knowledge of and experience with 21st Century skills and employability profiles
Experience collaborating and monitoring interventions for special populations enrolled inCTE programs Previous career counseling experience preferred


Certificates, License, Registration:

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with CounselingEndorsement or Appropriate Counseling Credentials

Physical Demands:
