Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency is Hiring a Behavioral Technician Near PORTAGE, MI

Division: Special Education

Position Type:

10 Month

Work Hours: M-F 7:00 - 3:00

(Job Grade: 14)

Summary: 

Behavior Technicians work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and often intense environment to provide behavioral interventions to students who have language, communication, behavioral and developmental delays. Interventions are individualized to meet the needs of each student and used to decrease problem and aggressive behavior as well as to promote skill acquisition. The Behavior Technician will also respond when teams need help with challenging behavior in the moment. This can be in any area of the building, any classroom, on a bus or in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must demonstrate KRESA’s core values of Collaboration, Innovation, Compassion, Trustworthiness, and Respect in the work
  • On the job training/supervision by Behavior Support Specialists
  • Coaches staff on the use of positive behavior supports Among the first to respond to behavior incidents and crises.
  • Models a positive approach to behavior
  • Demonstrates the belief that behavior is communication
  • Observing and collecting data on student behavior
  • Observing and collecting data on fidelity of plan implementation
  • Meeting with teams to review their data and problem solve solutions
  • Meeting with teams to debrief after a behavior incident
  • Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule, as needed
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Kalamazoo RESA handbook.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma; Minimum of 3 years of experience within behavior support field and classes/training in the area of behavior intervention and support preferred.
Certificates, License, Registration:
Willing to obtain Registered Behavior Technician certification

Physical Demands:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is frequently required to reach with arms and hands, stand, walk and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may need to intervene physically from time to time with students whose actions are creating imminent danger and use Crisis Prevention Institute Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques to keep the student and others safe. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is expected to drive between Kalamazoo RESA buildings, local districts and to workshops, trainings and conferences.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but can be moderate to loud at times.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
