The Facilities Management Project Manager provides management for all sizes of projects that are within the department’s scope of responsibility, including complex repair and maintenance, remodeling and construction from design to close-out. This full-time, benefits-eligible position ensures that projects are delivered on-time, within budget and executed smoothly, while minimizing disruption to the campus. The individual reports to the associate vice president for facilities management and serves as a member of the Facilities Management Leadership Team, and performs their duties in a way that promotes a positive work environment, which is inclusive and welcoming, collaborative, focused on achieving the College’s/department’s goals, and encourages a one-team approach.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts facility assessments to identify needed repairs and improvements, working with the Maintenance Manager to maintain a current record of building conditions
  • Assists AVP in preparing Operating Capital Budget including schedule and cost estimates
  • Develops plans and creates specifications for various projects; estimates costs, requisitions materials, and equipment, and coordinates contracted work
  • Prepares RFP documents and manages the vendor selection process
  • Communicates project updates and coordinates scheduling needs with internal customers
  • Works with internal customers to discuss space needs, remodeling and construction requests. Resolves problems and offers recommendations with estimates
  • Ensures compliance with building, life-safety codes, and barrier-free standards
  • Monitors progress and follows up to ensure quality, cost control, and user satisfaction
  • Manages start-up/commissioning, prepares close-out documents, and develops preventative maintenance plans for all implemented projects.
  • Prepares energy savings estimates and rebate applications, as well as other studies
  • Works with Maintenance Manager to improve project hand-off to trades staff, including developing preventative maintenance programs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of seven years of experience in a related field.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate many of the following qualities:

  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Proven success with complex project management including contracted services
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient MS Office suite, including Project and web-based applications (CMMS)
  • Experienced with preparing cost estimates, managing budgets, and keeping financial records
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
  • Ability and willingness to hold contractors accountable for cost, quality and scope of work
  • A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts to support a sense of belonging for all and a working understanding, or willingness to learn, of current issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Commitment to engage in continuous improvement of skills
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and a driving record in accord with College policy.

  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours when needed
