Regional General Manager

Job Summary 

The Regional General Manager leads the overall performance of the JustFoodForDogs kitchens and pantries in their region. The Regional General Manager role responsibilities include (1) ensure consistent high guest experience standards, (2) develop and manage team members and (3) drive store-level financial results throughout a designated Region. The Regional General Manager is responsible for the regional success and results of the day-to-day functions while encouraging teamwork and efficiency in the market. Our ideal applicant is a leader capable of delivering results in a fast pace environment, developing high performing teams and making key decisions to enhance the mission and guest experience for all current and future pet parents at JustFoodForDogs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage General Managers, Asst. General Manager and Pantry Area Managers, including coaching and training to achieve their performance goals.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Retail Ops to recruit, hire, and train new team members.
  • Oversee and manage labor budgets within locations, ensure effective scheduling to meet business needs, and adjust accordingly.
  • Ensure all locations maintain high quality standards through checklists, location visits, one on one meetings, company policy adherence, training administration, team leadership coaching, and performance management.
  • Serve as a role model for company values and protocols, setting the tone for culture within the Retail Locations and Head Quarters.
  • Track and maintain metrics defined in our Operating Manual (JustFoodForDogs’ standards), including a minimum number of store visits, trainings, customer/partner, and brand awareness opportunities.
  • Drive growth in new locations by partnering with the Marketing team as well as executing local events in the Community.

Sales/Guest Service:

  • Develop and Train leadership team to ensure Nutrition Consultants (NCs) are engaging with guests, understanding their pet’s dietary needs, and providing solutions and sales techniques to drive the company mission forward.
  • Inventory Management and ensuring leadership teams maintain effective merchandising and product display in all locations.
  • Train and empower leaders to create an exceptional guest experience taking all appropriate actions to problem solve in the moment to retain our pet parents at JFFD. 
  • Ensure all NCs have competed JustFoodForDogs Training Programs including Academy and assigned “The Bowl” classes. 
  • Solve for operational issues (e.g., equipment failure, ingredient shortage, quality questions) and coordinate with the Retail Operations and/or Facilities Manager to drive resolution.

Marketing:

  • Implement structure and competency within region around community engagement; increased brand awareness and retention through local community events and relationships. 
  • Develop and deliver local marketing plans (in coordination with marketing team efforts) to drive traffic in all locations with local teams and brand ambassadors.
  • Build relations with outside partners and agencies to continue to build brand awareness in the region. ie Vet clinics, apartment centers, neighboring retail businesses, and rescue services.

Operations:

  • Utilize verification process to ensure staff adheres to safety, cleanliness, and product quality standards.
  • Verify store team ordering processes are in place and approval of supply replenishment orders (e.g., marketing materials, ingredients).
  • Monitor and assess operational excellence in store business inclusive of supply chain operations; facilities; IT; communication; marketing collateral and inventory. 
  • Train all leadership teams to receive deliveries and accurately organize/manage back-room inventory as well as client services and administration duties
  • Visit Kitchens and/or Pantries weekly to assess state of business; coach and develop on the floor; check and verify all policies and procedures. 

People Development: 

  • Lead through the company’s mission to create an effective and positive teamwork environment.
  • Recruit, hire, train and manage a highly motivated and qualified retail team.
  • Provide in-person and virtual training, on-going development, and coaching to leadership team. 
  • Create and foster engaging environment for high performing team.
  • Host talent development and career growth through quarterly career growth conversations and bi-annual performance evaluation conversations. 

Business Acumen: 

  • Effectively implement strategic initiatives.
  • Plan and set individual as well as regional sales goals and track progress consistently. 
  • Meet or exceed monthly budget for market profitability; identify root cause and corrective actions for missed targets.
  • Manage, monitor and ensure the secure handling of cash.
  • Monitor and analyze business performance, key performance indicators; financial reporting and forecast planning. 
  • Present Weekly/Monthly and Quarterly business results/trends and actions. 
  • Provide weekly and monthly performance reporting packages to teams, leadership, executives, and partners.

Business Development

  • Collaborate with Senior Leaders and the Executive Team on relevant internal and external plan to open new locations. 
  • Collaborate with Development Team on new locations and construction sites
  • Serve as the local point of contact for landlords and property management. 
  • Serve as the point of contact for on-site architectural and construction teams.
  • Support new site openings, recruitment and training in new area/locations. 
  • On-site marketing/branding and plan for community events.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Manage, build, lead and motivate effective teams in a multi-unit environment.
  • Lead multiple areas of the business while congruently coordinating a wide range of activities. 
  • Create and implement strong training programs.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in retail environment.
  • A love for retail, nutrition, dogs, and a desire to create the ultimate customer experience.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communications.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning and project management competencies. 
  • Experience developing strong business relationships.
  • Exceptional Communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Comfort with constant evolution and change (as we are a rapidly growing business)
  • At least 5 years of multi-unit leadership experience within the retail, hospitality, or restaurant industry
  • Ability to travel frequently within the assigned market.
  • Availability to work on weekends regularly.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
