PLACEMENT: Professional, Grade 9
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $57,964.00 annually

POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Wellness Advocate, Licensed Therapist under supervision of the Dean of Students will provide short-term individual counseling, crisis management, and group counseling services. Works closely with a Case Management Coordinator and the Clinical Case Manager to connect students with additional support services when deemed necessary and appropriate. Provides services both in-person and remotely via video or telephone. Provides consultation to team members, faculty, staff, students, and parents of students (FERPA released) regarding concerns and issues. Collaborates with other on-campus and off-campus organizations to further promote mental health and wellness efforts and develops relationships for the coordination of services.
Position requires the ability to serve students at all JJC's campuses and ability to travel between campuses. Some evening and weekend hours may be necessary to attend College or weekend events as well as address after-hours crises.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide short-term individual and group counseling services and make appropriate referrals for students in need of more intensive mental health support.
2. Provide crisis management, which includes responding, assessing, diagnosing, referring, and following up with providers and students as needed.
3. Maintain knowledge and skills in performing intake assessments, mental health diagnosis and treatment planning with follow-up.
4. Maintain students' assessment and treatment records adhering to professional and college standards.
5. Assist members of JJC's Behavioral and Threat Assessment Team and Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to provide psychological/behavioral perspective and consultative support as needed.
6. Provide confidential support to students reporting Title IX or sexual violence occurrences. Must complete 40-hours Sexual Assault training.
7. Participate in counseling staff meetings and consultations and discuss any counseling issues and/or concerns, including developing and maintaining counseling policies and protocols.
8. Participate and respond to student crises as assigned. This includes being available to respond to after-hours and/or weekend emergencies on a limited basis.
9. Provide training for faculty and staff when working with students in distress and other topics related to mental health advocacy.
10. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with College's departments and community agencies that help facilitate students' access to College and/or community services such as mental health, housing, food banks, and other necessary resources.
11. Develop, participate or provide workshops, classroom presentations, events, or other psycho-social groups throughout the semester.
12. Develop, implement, and maintain on-going mental health outreach efforts, including such topics as: sexual assault and prevention, suicide prevention, LGBTQIA issues, substance abuse, and work with underrepresented student populations, including but not limited to Latino, African American, LGBTQIA, and international students.
13. Participate in on-going professional development and maintain educational requirements to maintain state license.
14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's Degree in psychology, social work, or clinical mental health counseling.
2. Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent license in the State of Illinois.
3. Two (2) years of counseling related experience in a mental health setting.
4. Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary groups or teams and/or interdepartmental communication and coordination.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to write and present educational programs and to make presentations to large groups.
6. Demonstrate a commitment to building and maintaining relationships with multi-culturally diverse students and colleagues. This includes prior experience, an ongoing commitment, and relevant ability to engage and work with a multi-culturally diverse student population, including LGBTQIA.
7. Ability to work flexible hours including some evening hours consistent with student needs is necessary. Along with the ability to be on-call after regular hours.
8. Ability and means to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
9. Must have educational requirements to maintain state license.
10. Possess and maintain professional liability/malpractice insurance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working in a university/college counseling center.
2. Bilingual, Spanish Fluency to perform within counseling sessions.
3. Interest and experience working with a range of diverse student identities and needs; e.g., international, historically underrepresented or underserved students, LGBTQIA identified students, and student with disabilities.
4. Experience and skills with use of online and social media to enhance services.
5. Certification in tele-mental health is a plus or ability to be certified within 6 months of hire. Experience in providing counseling via remote methods, such as video or phone.
6. Skill in using record keeping systems, Titanium Schedule.
7. A student-centered leader with deep passion for student life and associated best practices in context of higher education.
8. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
