JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Athletic Director (7-12)
Contract 234 Days
Building/Facility: Johnstown High School and Johnstown Middle School
Reports to: Building Principals
Employment status: Full-time
FLSA Status: Exempt

Description: The Johnstown-Monroe School District is searching for an Athletic Director who provides leadership in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic programs. Achieving excellence requires that the Director of Athletics works collaboratively to lead and nurture members of the staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, program evaluation, personnel management, financial management, marketing, and establishing and maintaining effective relationships with local youth athletic programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the schools to develop a district-wide athletic program to ensure uniformity and coordination.
  • Develop athletic policies with input from stakeholders.
  • Recommend, train, and evaluate staff and coaches.
  • Develop a coach and student athletic handbook and update annually.
  • Serve as liaison between the district and local youth athletic programs.
  • Manage facility use for the school district in accordance with local board policy.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a district comprehensive marketing plan for all groups associated with sponsorships and extra-curricular sales.
  • Serve as district point of contact for extra-curricular sponsorships and sales.
  • Provide guidance to the students in the sports programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that games, events, transportation and officials are scheduled for all sports.
  • Monitor and implement program changes to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and current athletic league and state athletic association policies and bylaws.
  • Develop and monitor a system for collection and retention of all athletic related paperwork including, but not limited to student physical examinations, concussion paperwork, parent permission forms and liability waivers.
  • Monitor process for assigning and collecting all athletic fees.
  • Serve as a consultant within the District on all athletic construction projects.
  • Participate in the procurement and supervision of all athletic training services.
  • Ensure that athletic facilities are safe and being properly maintained and report any identified deficiency are reported to the facility manager.
  • Responsible for promoting all interscholastic sports through publications, social media, press releases and school district website.
  • Establish and maintain good community relations through consistent and effective communication and attendance at meetings as needed.
  • Prepare all reports and maintain such records as required by school law, regulation, or request of the superintendent/principal.
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
  • Promote good public relations by maintaining professional personal appearance, positive attitude and encouraging conversation.
  • Respond to complaints of parents in a positive and professional manner.
  • Responsible for investigating reported violations of the athletic handbook and issuing discipline when needed.
  • Develop a program to track student athletic eligibility that includes an effective study table program and parent communication.
  • Working with high school secretary, maintain up-to-date and accurate student records, fees, attendance, etc.
  • Attend athletic contests both home and away as coordinated with the other school administrators.
  • Work with treasurer to develop procedures for the sale of all athletic tickets.
  • Inventory, maintain, and replace athletic equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Ensure all coaches and volunteers have proper paperwork prior to commencing any duties associated with their position.
  • Maintain an up-to-date budget account for each sport.
  • Ensure the athletic portion of the interactive touch screen is maintained and up to date.
  • Establish and maintain an effective relationship with the athletic booster program.
  • Attend and supervise, as required, special events, functions, and athletic events of the school.
  • Monitor lunchroom operation, student assemblies and student arrival and departure.
  • Administer the school in the absence of the principal and dean of students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or superintendent
  • Ensure coach’s concussion protocols are followed, and follow-up with impacted student athletes to ensure appropriate accommodations are made in classrooms during recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate State of Ohio Teacher certification/license preferred.
  • Appropriate State of Ohio Principal certification/license preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Administration from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Three (3) years successful education related experience preferred.
  • Position requires a working knowledge of high school functions including student discipline, OHSAA rules and regulations; good organizational and communication skills; and ability to work cooperatively with others.

  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop

  • Frequent interaction among unruly children
  • Occasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 60 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
  • Frequent requirement to travel, both daily and overnight
  • Frequent weekend/evening/summer work
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to attend to classes on all scheduled school days, except calamity days
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing
