Johns Hopkins Medicine is Hiring a CT Technologist Near Washington, DC

CT Technologist operates all CT Scanners located in the Imaging department for the purpose of performing diagnostic exams according to physician orders. Insures the efficient flow of patients to maximize throughput. Ensures complete and accurate data entry in EPIC and PACS.

Schedule: Monday-Friday - 11:30A.M -8:00P.M. 

  • Performs all CT examinations according to department procedure manual and established protocols.
  • Interviews patients (in/out) for history pertaining to CT exam. This history is to include unusual conditions or limitations and other pertinent information
    Prepares and/or administers contrast media, oral and IV contrast.
  • Monitors and observes any abnormal changes in patients color, respiration, heart rate and responsiveness. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, administers first aid/CPR as needed. Maintains emergency equipment in the room (to include O2, suction, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, Benadryl, Adrenalin, Epinephrine 1:1,000 and 1:10,000) to insure availability.
  • Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation and visual ID band inspection as stated in the Radiology Safety Manual.
  • Provides radiation protection to patient (if the patient requests) staff and self according to prescribed radiation safety standards. Radiation protection provided: lead aprons (9.25 lbs), lead gloves (2 lbs) and lead glasses (2.5 oz).
  • Assists and/or moves patients independently to and from wheelchairs, stretchers and CT scan table (27" from floor).
  • Prepare patients for procedures according to established Radiology Department protocols.
  • Visually verifies accuracy of radiology order by checking physicians order in patients’ chart or prescription. Verbal verification from physician may be necessary if orders are not clear.
  • Handles multiple situations and the stress associated with frequent interruptions of the work flow.
  • Assists radiologists in IR CT examinations including but not limited to biopsies
  • Uses hospital information system, via EPIC to access laboratory results for exam related information.

II. Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs visual preventive checks on the equipment and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Verbally calls, via telephone, service engineer when a malfunction occurs to CT Scanner.
  • Assists in the orientation of new employees and students to the department and hospital.
  • Utilizes department telephone system to communicate with the department/hospital. Able to information systems appropriately.
  • Keeps room/work station neat and orderly. This is to include scrubbing CT Scanner with disinfectant. Maintains adequate supplies to perform examinations.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Must be able to start IV's, administer contrast media.
  • Able to operate CT scanner, position patients and assist patients to and from waiting room, holding room, dressing room and CT room.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patients’ condition, read charts, read physicians orders, identify contrast media, and review exam on monitor for completeness and/or immediate action by the radiologist if positive findings are present.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, keyboards. 
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

  • Ability to use department telephone

  • Requires good reasoning ability to accomplish problem solutions.

  • Handles multiple situations and the stress associated with frequent interruptions of the work-flow.

  • Knowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group and the ability to modify care according to patient’s age. Technologist will most frequently care for adults and geriatrics.

  • Able to assist in lifting and carrying supplies (approximately 50 lbs.)

  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.

  • Two years of experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist.

  • Current CPR certification required.

  • CT certification.
