The Assistant Director, SOVA Community Food and Resource Center assists the director in providing leadership for sourcing, receiving, storage and distribution of food products through our food pantry program. S/he oversees personnel, volunteers, inventory control, grocery rescue, warehouse facilities, and transportation functions for two facilities and pop-up pantries located in the greater Los Angeles area. 

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of organizational, management and supervisory experience applicable to overseeing day-to-day operations of large food distribution programs.
  • Minimum of BA degree in related field.
  • Strong computer skills, database management and inventory control software highly desired.
  • Experience working in a social service, community-based or direct service setting environment desired.
  • Stellar interpersonal, customer service and personnel coaching skills.
  • Strong ability to implement and manage multiple projects, think creatively and methodically to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team setting, working effectively with staff, volunteers and clients.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multicultural client/customer population.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel between work sites.
  • Valid and unrestricted California Driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Assist with quality assurance oversight related to daily back-end operations of two food pantries and off-site pop-up pantries, warehouse, and food distribution.
  • Provides back up to both front end and back-end SOVA operations in the absence of Program Director or as needed, including back-up supervision related to onsite client services and maintenance of electronic client records.
  • Provides direct oversight and management to back-end of operations including, SOVA Warehouse, team members and volunteers in the areas of production, distribution and inventory control of food and other products.
  • Provide operational and logistical oversight for all activities related to inventory control, food purchase, donation pick-ups, safe efficient food storage and handling, food packing and readiness for disbursement, and transportation and routing for food pick-ups and disbursements to multiple sites.
  • Provide direct oversight to Program Manager and Assistant Manager for these areas, including hiring, orientation, supervision and ongoing evaluation and staff development. Provide weekly supervisory one on one meetings with each direct report and ensure similar structure for each indirect report.
  • Responsible for oversight of Warehouse facilities (Pico-Robertson and Van Nuys facilities) and ensure compliance with safety standards including organization, cleanliness, food safety, and repair and maintenance of sites, warehouse equipment, and vehicles.
  • Assist director in the creation, maintenance and updating of policies and procedures related to warehouse, food procurement, inventory control, and transportation operations for SOVA. 
  • Assist in implementation of program goals and program changes needed based on changing client demographics and needs and agency strategic planning.
  • Attend weekly one on one supervisory meetings with Director and co-facilitate weekly staff meetings.
  • Build strong professional relationships with diverse group of volunteers, staff and clients.
  • Participate in hunger relief advocacy efforts as needed.
  • Provide back-up to on call response to emergency situations.
  • Attend staff meetings and community meetings as requested/required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
