Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Organization: Jewish Family Service of San Diego

Division: Immigration Services Division – Migrant Shelter

Position Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Non-Exempt

Work Setting: Onsite

Pay Rate: $25- $29/hour

Position Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a key role in keeping the SDRRN Migrant Shelter locations looking clean and pristine, as well as providing back of the house support to all programs. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to take direction, as well as initiative, regarding general building maintenance, safety, and security. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will act as an extra set of eyes in performing daily inspections of the site, as well as be expected to interact with exemplary customer skills to campus staff, guests, and clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and prioritize facility requests from staff in a timely manner (Ex: moving shelter furniture, managing deliveries and vendors, etc.)
  • General groundskeeping maintenance (sweeping walkways, empty trash cans, window washing, wiping tables, etc.)
  • Perform or assist with preventative maintenance on campus (Ex: cleaning air vents, replacing filters, changing out air deodorizers, power washing, etc.)
  • Perform general maintenance of the following as required: minor plumbing and electrical, painting, drywall repair, ceiling tiles, flooring, etc
  • Daily monitoring of shelter spaces and event set ups, including creating and displaying the appropriate signage
  • Coordinate maintenance efforts with contractors and technicians as directed by supervisor
  • Order parts and supplies as required; maintain stock and inventory control of items related to facilities functions
  • Accept, receive, and document deliveries/donations and distribute to appropriate parties
  • Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean and safe manner
  • Identify and correct unsafe working conditions with management oversight
  • Report all known safety hazards, equipment issues and customer concerns to supervisor
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations. Including afterhours and on weekends as needed
  • Perform other similar duties or projects as assigned and requested

Skills/Experiences/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable building maintenance experience
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Basic computer skills; able to navigate and utilize Microsoft Word and Outlook 360
  • Team player with a great attitude, excellent customer service skills, effective communication skills, and efficient decision-making skills
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues
  • Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to stand, walk, lift, twist, and bend on a frequent basis, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment necessary to complete assignments
