Jewish Family Children Service is Hiring a Volunteer Coordinator Near San Francisco, CA

The Volunteer Coordinator, San Francisco plays a key role in raising the profile of JFCS in the community by building relationships with individuals and organizations and encouraging their involvement in JFCS. The Volunteer Coordinator develops and manages community and volunteer initiatives that extend our services to those who need them and connects the community with JFCS.

We have over 40 programs, including home care for seniors, therapy for children, youth volunteer programs, services for people with disabilities, and so much more.

Who Are You?

  • Have excellent ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Have high level of energy, good organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable of Jewish traditions, holidays, and customs
  • Knowledgeable of Jewish organizations on the Peninsula
  • Have experience in facilitating large groups
  • Have the ability to inspire volunteers through group presentations
  • Excellent networking and outreach skills and ability to clearly present program goals and to work collaboratively with diverse staff
  • Have excellent computer skills
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Able to work weekends and evenings
  • Have desire to work in a social service setting
  • Have the commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission, goals, and objectives of the Agency
  • Have the COVID-19 Vaccination card by date of hire (JFCS will provide reasonable accommodations to those individuals who are unable to be vaccinated for COVID-19 consistent with federal, state, and local law)
  • Preferably have:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Two years of experience in volunteer management or a related field of work

What Will You Do?

  • Implements strategies for targeted outreach to engage both individuals and organizations with JFCS and to recruit volunteers, attracting a cadre of trained, motivated, and engaged volunteers to support the JFCS’ programs and clients
  • Manages direct service volunteer programs in the San Francisco Region
    • This may include, but is not limited to Holiday Outreach, the JFCS Food Bank and JFCS Food Runner Program, Senior Companions, Mensches on the Go, Family volunteering, and other programs as assigned.
    • Activities may include assessment of clients referred to the program; recruitment, screening, and training of new volunteers; matching clients with volunteers, and providing ongoing support to volunteers to ensure success and to help solve problems that arise
  • Acts as liaison between the client, volunteer, and case managers to ensure that appropriate resources are provided to address client needs
  • Manages volunteer inquiries, and implements volunteer screening, orientation, and training procedures that prepare volunteers for the range of services they provide and effectively link volunteer service to Jewish values and traditions
  • Handles client and volunteer feedback, ensuring that problems are handled in a timely manner
  • Implements surveys and annual assessments to support and enhance future programming
  • Collaborates to develop new projects, programs, and experiences for engagement with JFCS, including programs focused on families
  • Ensures that volunteer program policies and procedures reflect best practices in the field of volunteer management and Jewish service-learning
  • In collaboration with senior management, evaluate the effectiveness of current volunteer programs
  • Works closely with Development staff to ensure that direct service volunteers with financial capacity are made aware of opportunities for financial investment in our services and understand the funding needs of JFCS
  • Supports special initiatives that involve donors with the Agency, with the goal of providing them with a meaningful hands-on service experience
  • Collaborates with the Marketing team to create effective marketing materials for volunteer events and programs. Ensures all materials given to clients and volunteers are up to date and meet agency standards
  • Meets JFCS standards for record-keeping and tracking by ensuring that volunteer applications and time sheets are completed accurately, and data is input into the volunteer management database
  • Participates as a team member on other regional and agency-wide projects
