Position Summary 

The CDO is responsible for working with the CEO and other C-Suite members to organize, oversee, and implement JFCS’s fundraising strategy in order to ensure the long term sustainability of the organization. The CDO will manage a team responsible for ensuring that JFCS has the resources needed to successfully fulfill its mission of serving the community. This includes community appeals, foundation and government grants, and individual solicitations. Success in this position will be shown by raising funds required to support existing operations and ensuring that JFCS can continue to expand its services into the future. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated success in fundraising for non-profit organizations including campaign design, donor outreach, staff coordination and management and outcomes tracking
  • Personal values aligned with organizational values: responsiveness, respect, quality, collaboration, stewardship, leadership 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others 
  • Experience managing employees 
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, CRM systems, and donation-management tools 
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated success with grant writing and grant reporting 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Great multitasking and time-management skills 
  • Able to travel to meet with potential donors 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration, nonprofit management, fundraising or related field 
  • Comfortable working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Development 

  • Create, update, and implement fund development plans to ensure JFCS meets both annual and program-specific fundraising goals 
  • Formulate strategies for donor cultivation and stewardship for JFCS and its individual service areas, and work with CEO and JFCS staff on implementation 
  • Create ongoing strategies for identifying grant opportunities for maintaining and growing JFCS services 
  • Work with leadership team on the grant process, ensuring accountability to funding entities and maximizing revenue from grants and foundations 
  • Supervise the grant writer(s) to ensure successful grant proposals and consistent and timely grant reporting 
  • Maintain organized database of all fundraising initiatives and outcomes, including grant data, and use data to guide activities 
  • Provide detailed fundraising progress reports to the CEO and board of director’s Fundraising Committee 
  • Participate in community meetings with donors, funders and other stakeholders (mostly local with very limited travel)

Development and Communications

  • Supervise the Director of Development and Communications, ensuring success in meeting the various needs of the JFCS service departments and their constituents 

Evaluation and Measurement 

  • Supervise the Manager of Evaluation and Measurement, ensuring that JFCS is optimally using data to drive critical agency decisions and operations

Administrative

  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and direction to direct reports 
  • Assist direct reports with their talent development through training, special projects and other efforts 
  • Participate annually in agency and partner related philanthropic activities and campaigns 
  • Maintain knowledge on all ethics and new trends impacting development, communication and marketing issues. Review best practice standards and implement new practices and procedures as needed 
  • Perform other related duties as required by CEO
