Pay Grade: $13.27 per hour
Reports to: Museum Gift Shop Supervisor
Benefits: Parking Pass and Amenities Passes
Retirement: Georgia Employee Retirement System (GDCP)

This opening is a seasonal part-time position that will not exceed six months.

Surrounded by salt marshes, expansive oceanfront, and ancient maritime forests, it is situated within the Golden Isles chain, just a few miles from St. Simons Island, Sea Island, and Brunswick. As a State Park, Jekyll Island is a coastal haven where nature and humans peacefully co-exist.
SummaryThe Jekyll Island, Retail Operations Division seeks an outgoing, responsible, and energetic Guest Service staff to represent Jekyll Island and enhance the visitor experience at Mosaic, the Jekyll Island Museum. Under limited supervision, the Gift Shop Guest Service responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing exceptional customer service to visitors, performing sales transactions, and maintaining the appearance and stock items of the Gift Shop. This Gift Shop Guest Service position is a seasonal position that will not exceed six months in duration. Flexible scheduling, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Hours and days will vary.
Description
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills and responds to guest inquiries professionally.
  • Demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and self-motivation.
  • Operates point of sale system for retail sales, admissions, tours, donations, etc.
  • Deposits all receipts, completes verification of deposit records and ensures all monies are accounted for.
  • Provides visitors with information helpfully and courteously.
  • Participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills.
  • Restock inventory and maintain a clean and orderly sales floor.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of retail/customer service experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and evenings.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Credit and Criminal background checks are required.
  • Valid driver's license required; will be required to travel between gift shops and other JIA buildings and property.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and up to 15 pounds frequently and constantly exert negligible force to move objects.
  • More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing (standing on and using 1-2 steps), reaching, using fingers to handle objects such as money, and using repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and fingers.
  • Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.
  • Less than 25% of the day is spent kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Sensory abilities require vision, hearing, and touching, with more than 50% of the day spent communicating, talking, and hearing.
  • Must have visual clarity to prepare and analyze data and figures, use the computer, and expansive reading.
  • Occasionally, most work is performed indoors and may be subjected to extreme heat and adverse weather, including rain and cold temperatures.
  • Noise level is considered normal to loud.
  • Work is subjected to hazards, moving vehicles.
