Sr. Manager Commercial Planning
The Sr. Manager Commercial Planning will be responsible for developing, planning and modelling commercial objectives to inform strategic marketing plans. You are an astute retail strategic planner with a strong capability in commercial data analysis and modelling. This role is pivotal in leveraging data to set clear objectives, pinpoint business challenges, and define hypothesis for strategic paths in our ever-evolving retail landscape. In this role, you will be responsible for analysis, reporting and modelling of traffic, conversion, and promotional lift/impact across all selling channels (eComm and Stores) based on organizational priorities. In addition to establishing and maintaining commercial objectives this position is responsible for communicating regular updates to leadership with thoughtful data led hypothesis in order to inform cross functional strategies evolution and tactical adjustments. As a part of the Commercial and Perfroamnce Marketing team this role will maintain a non-biased data led view on promotional performance. Specific areas of responsibility will include maintaining expert knowledge of traffic for both JCPenney and industry, modelling impacts of marketing promotions on the business. This role is responsible for cross organization alignment working with all functions in the company to ensure clear communication and results of objectives, strategies. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing Effectiveness.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and analyse commercial traffic and conversion data sets to model scenario based hypothesis in relation, to marketing drivers (romotional activities) driving our retail strategy and decision-making processes.
  • Define clear, data-driven objectives, ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
  • Utilize data and market insights to proactively identify and articulate potential business challenges and opportunities.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and the Marketing Effetciveness lead to align on objectives, share insights, and co-create strategic initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, ensuring our commercial strategy is informed by both data and market movements.
  • Design and oversee key performance metrics, regularly reviewing data to assess progress and recalibrate objectives.
  • Analyze competitor data and market positioning, identifying potential threats and windows of opportunity.
  • Synthesize findings into compelling narratives, presenting data-driven recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Develop insight driven dashboards and communications to enable the broader marketing department to measure progress towards objectives.
  • Manage traffic data for both stores and online, seen as the company wide source of data and insights related to traffic.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure KPIs are clearly understood, aligned across organizations and transparent to leadership.
  • Assist in the development of seasonal commercial objectives and establish seasonal commercial strategies in support of Corporate Objectives.
  • Work in partnership with marketing effectiveness, FP&A, and Customer engagement teams
  • Provide guidance and support to Director of marketing Effectiveness.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data led fields with exposure to Corporate or Marketing Strategy.
  • Ideal candidate will have a foundation of strong analytic skills through education and experience (Math, Statistics, Economics or Finance) and experience in Strategic Planning)
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Economics or Business required. Master's degree a plus.
  • Ideally some years experience at at top tier consulting form working in the retail sector
  • Proficient in advanced data analytics tools and software. Strong understanding of analytical best practices, statistical measurement and reporting required.
  • Proven track record of setting and monitoring business objectives.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, underpinned by a data-centric approach.
  • Stellar communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning and delivering data modelling, beyond just reporting, required.
  • Be a thought leader and cultivate a culture of out of the box thinking and innovation, a change agent and cross functional peer leader.
