Jansen, Inc. a is a heavy civil general contractor that excels at larger scale municipal projects. Based in Bellingham and Seattle we are now seeking a professional and dependable Payroll Specialist. The ideal candidate will have experience with both union and non-union payrolls and all reporting requirements. This is a “hands-on” position, not a supervisory position. This position reports to the company Controller and is responsible for all phases of the payroll process.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Process a weekly payroll for all employees.
• Process weekly payroll taxes for weekly payrolls.
• Process monthly union remittance reports and payments.
• Process quarterly tax filings
• Process and tracking of garnishments and child support payments.
• Review Union Collective Bargaining Agreements and apply correct contract specifics for various trades to new and existing jobs.
• Weekly Certified Payroll tracking and reporting with LCP Tracker and Labor and Industries.
• Provide documentation and support for all payroll related audits.
• Process and respond to all Employment Security Department notices.
• Remit 401(k) contributions.

Education/Experience

• Payroll processing experience and Payroll Tax filing is required.
• Experience in year-end reporting (W-2/W-3/ACA) is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is a plus, but not required.
• Prior union payroll experience is a plus, but not required.
• Prior union reporting is a plus, but not required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Strong technical knowledge of payroll concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Experience with union agreements, fair labor standards, prevailing wage decisions, and certified payroll reporting.
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Bamboo HR a plus!
• Experience with HCSS Heavy Job and Foundation is a plus, but not required.
• Highly organized, efficient, and able to multi-task
• Team player and a self-starter
• Strong communication skills

Starting pay range is $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.

Benefits:

*Vacation Accrual:

Years 1-2 -Two weeks – 80 hrs.

Years 3-4 - Three weeks – 120 hrs.

Years 5 - Four Weeks – 160 hrs.

*Once you have successfully completed your 60-day introductory period, you can request and begin using vacation days.

Sick: Earn 1-hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

Holidays (8 Paid Holidays): New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (4th of July), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
