    Description:
    Responsible for coaching and teaching students in musical strategies and techniques that prepares them for singing, chorography and life lessons. This position teaches students to develop and appreciate fine arts and what you can learn through music.
    Qualifications:
    Perform essential functions listed below satisfactorily. The director should have a musical background in vocal skills, with knowledge of how to play the piano. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     Essential Functions:
    Coaching Responsibilities:
    • Hold organizational meetings with the students interested in performing in the Swing Show.
    • Communicate effectively with the students, activities department, and parents about expectations, goals of the program, practices, changes in the schedule, and performances.
    • Practices are to include JWP Core Values and principles.
    • Plan effective and organized practices that maximize director and students abilities that properly prepare them for practices and performances.
    • Practices must be characterized by instruction that accounts for a logical sequence of fundamentals that consider the developmental level of the student and that lead to an enhanced progression of student knowledge, skill, and capability. Instruction must move from simple to complex and known to unknown.
    • Students should be matched with consideration for maturity and skill. To the degree possible, mismatches should be avoided in all categories.
    • Provide appropriate and sequential instruction that demonstrates safe techniques and identifies any unsafe practices that may cause danger to the student or place the team in a dangerous condition.
    • Control impulsive behavior, give competent instruction, provide structured practices that are appropriate for the age and maturity of athletes.
    • Be open to consult and receive feedback from the students and their wants and needs to put on a show.
    • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
    Additional Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Work with the activities director in scheduling facilities for practices and performances.
    • Be present or assign a school board approved coach/director to provide supervision. Students must be denied access when a coach cannot be physically present to supervise.
    • Assess and maintain inventory of any equipment used for practices and shows. Any defective equipment should not be used and reported to the activities director.
    • Complete the Emergency Action Plan to use during practices on and off site.
    • Expected to be able to administer accepted, prioritized, standard first aid procedures in response to a range of traumatic injuries - especially those that are potentially life-threatening.
    • Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourage students to maintain a high academic standard. Students are expected to maintain a D- or greater in order to participate.
    • Conferences with guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
    • Follow school regulations governing the Swing Show program.
    • Promote the Swing Show by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.
    • Follow any other instructions and to perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director or the appropriate administration.
