Our client, a leader in the commercial construction sector with expertise in Design-Build General Contracting and Structural Concrete projects, is seeking a Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Engineer. This position plays a critical role in the development, refinement, and implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other virtual design and construction technologies. The VDC Engineer will be instrumental in supporting preconstruction, construction operations, and consulting/litigation support services through expert use of VDC software and practices. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, open to new challenges, and possess a keen interest in virtual construction technologies.

Position Location: Woodland Hills, CA. This role requires travel to job sites and partner offices as needed, with the flexibility to work from job sites as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position may supervise assistants and lower-level staff, guiding and mentoring them in VDC practices and technologies.

What You'll be Responsible For: 

• Develop and coordinate 3D object-oriented models to support various construction phases.
• Create 5D visual simulations that integrate BIM with time and cost data using tools such as Navisworks or Synchro.
• Conduct clash detections to prevent construction delays and design inconsistencies.
• Utilize 3D scanning and layout work using technologies like Trimble 3D Scanner and Robotic Total Station for accurate project executions.
• Incorporate actual job costs, model-based quantity reports, and schedule information back into models for comprehensive project control and analysis.
• Generate formwork, concrete lift and placement drawings, and general assembly drawings for precise construction guidance.
• Support pre-construction and business development efforts with photorealistic imagery creation using rendering engines like Artlantis.
• Manage project documentation effectively, including RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Process and register 3D point cloud scan files using software suites like Trimble REALWORKS, Scene, or Rythm, and produce as-built models.
• Convert building model files and 3D scanned point clouds for rapid prototype 3D printing using tools like Materialise Magics and SpaceClaim.
• Conduct completeness and constructibility reviews under supervision, managing RFIs and ensuring project constructibility.

What You Must Have: 

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 2 years of experience in the building or design industry preferred.
• Basic understanding and preliminary experience with BIM/VDC systems such as Autodesk Revit, Bentley Systems, TEKLA, Synchro, Navisworks, SketchUp, and similar software suites.
• High proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and BlueBeam, with excellent computer skills.
• Strong personal management skills, with a focus on dedication, organization, and creative problem-solving.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating open-mindedness and creativity.
