ITEOM is Hiring a Remote Manager - On Premise Infrastructure (VM/Windows/DR/Backup/Storage)

We are seeking an ambitious, high energy Manager of IT Operations for our client’s On-Prem infrastructure. In this role, you’d be responsible for on-premise IT infrastructure for a large enterprise with 500 locations nationwide. You’d leverage your technical chops across Virtualization, Windows Server Management, DR/Backup and Storage for a distributed/multi-site infrastructure while leading by example as a player-coach, to lead vital projects of M&A such as systems migrations and consolidations. This position is ideal for a tactical and dynamic leader aiming to drive progress and enhance operational efficiencies within a fast-paced, high-growth organization.

Remote Location/WFH - support east coast ops and remote engineering team; some travel may be required.

What You'd Be Doing:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4-7 engineers, focusing on the administration and configuration of a primarily on-prem infrastructure.

  • Oversee a complex network of Dell and HP servers and storage arrays, ensuring seamless integration of IT systems from newly acquired companies.

  • Spearhead disaster recovery strategies and backup systems, implementing cutting-edge solutions like Veeam and Edge Technology.

  • Collaborate closely with IT Leadership to align service objectives with business goals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovative problem-solving within your team.

  • Provide support prioritization and troubleshooting for all M&A project activity, escalations, and foster relationships cross functionally inside and outside of the organization. (Third Party Vendors).

  • Act as POC for all escalations. This role is 60% hands-on/tactical overseeing and leading/mentoring the team on day to day priorities; while ~30% of your time will be focused on overall ops-strategy and making improvements to our client’s on premise infrastructure processes/procedures using ITIL practices/standards.

What Career Growth Looks Like Given Your Contributions:

This role is more than just a job; it offers career growth across the organization. As you demonstrate your ability to manage and expand our client’s on-prem operations, you'll have the chance to:

  • Engage directly in budget management and resource forecasting, sharpening your financial acumen. Prior budget management experience is a plus!

  • Lead strategic initiatives for process improvement and standard operating procedure development, setting the stage for operational excellence.

  • Grow your team, with immediate opportunities to add senior system engineers under your leadership.

  • Influence the direction of the company's IT strategies, preparing you for higher leadership roles and more significant responsibilities across the organization.

What Skills/Experience Is Required:

  • Proven expertise in managing on-premises infrastructure, with a strong focus on server/storage hardware and Windows server system administration, including Active Directory and VMware. Possessing 5-7 years of experience in 2-3 different company environments is preferred.

  • A solid track record in virtualization technologies and disaster recovery planning, with hands-on experience in configuring and managing ESXi and VMware environments. 7 years of comprehensive and progressive experience in at least 2 companies required.

  • You’ve been responsible for tactical day to day technical matters of above technologies and POC for t2/t3 escalations, and you have at least a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role (technical lead or manager) managing medium to large-scale IT operations (200-600 servers, multiple locations, distributed infrastructure).

  • Excellent mentoring and communication skills, with a desire to improve leadership skills and manage complex projects and priorities.

  • Strategy will initially be ~30%-40% of your day, so you need to have a strategic mindset in order to identify and suggest areas of improvement and the technical prowess to design, deploy and lead those improvements.

  • Having experience with Mergers & Acquisitions and the dynamics involved to prioritize moving on-prem to on-prem in highly distributed/complex hypervisors will make you stand out. **Our client has substantial growth on the radar, with 1-2 mergers of mid-large size companies planned monthly, for the coming 2-3 years.

  • Certs like AZ 800 or MCSE or VCP are nice to have; practical experience is required.

About our Client: As a leader in the home and commercial building materials space, our client has achieved aggressive growth to date in part due to their collaborative team of technical professionals. Continuing their major growth trend, the organization has plans to achieve 20 Billion by 2028 which will be intentional through M&A. Acquiring different hypervisors and technical infrastructures, and successfully integrating them into our client’s footprint, the IT Operations team will be integral to the organization’s ability to achieve its next level of success.

We’re seeking change enablers, who thrive in dynamic environments, lead by example, and who aren't afraid to be in the trenches. Your eagerness and agility to drive technological and operational advancements will be invaluable as our client’s organization grows. If you are a go-getter with a knack for technical precision when it comes to on-premise infrastructure, windows administration and virtualization and you have a passion for leading by elevating those around you, this is your chance to take your career to the next level.
