Position Information

Position Title

College and Career Transition Advisor

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing personal and academic support to students in the College and Career Transition Counselor (CCTC) program and Pottawattamie Promise Scholarship through intrusive advising; a model that motivates students to seek help when they need it through social interaction and one-on-one advising meetings and by forming strong relationships with students. This position will assist students participating in CCTC and Pottawattamie Promise scholars with applying, accepting, and receiving financial aid. This position will maintain records including but not limited to student progress toward degree completion, financial aid status, and program status.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Experience that demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students
Experience that illustrates a history of successfully collaborating with co-workers on a regular basis to achieve common goals
Must demonstrate student-centered decision making
Must convey a commitment to delivering first-rate customer service and exceptional support on a daily basis
Experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully work on and complete several projects at one time
Experience mentoring and/or advising first-generation college student, preferably at a community college is preferred
Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
Positive attitude
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
Ability to pass a background check, have a valid driver’s license, and a good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree

Physical Demands

Normal office environment with the ability to life up to 10lbs
The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear

$38,000
