Iowa Orthopaedic Center PC is Hiring a Remote Remote Medical Pre-Coder

Description

Iowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking a Pre-Coder to join our team. This position is an entry-level coding position. The role ensures all information is complete and available for Certified Professional Coders (CPC) to code physician services to bill the charges to insurance. Pre-coders are responsible for reviewing and tracking revenue processes, such as capturing medical records from outside facilities and reviewing documentation for accuracy. Our full-time position is Monday through Friday, with clinic hours. After completing the training period, this position offers a remote work arrangement. You must reside within a 2-hour radius of the Des Moines metro area to be successful, as in-person meetings are essential. This position as a Pre-Coder is a great fit for someone working toward becoming a CPC.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Review for physician dictation of clinic visits and all hospital procedures including ASC
  • Locate corrections needed, and send requests to physicians and Transcription Department for necessary update or addendum. Attach all documentation needed to send the addendum.
  • Coordinate with Transcription, Front Office Staff, and Coding Department to ensure all necessary patient data is available and loaded into NextGen
  • Learn to work with medical records and billing departments from all associated physicians regarding transfer and sharing of PHI and charge posting information to ensure accurate records and charges for all entities involved
  • Prepare Operative Reports from outside associated entities daily and prep for scanning into EMR
  • Reassign tasks to the coders for any hospital documents that have been scanned into NextGen.
  • Process any addendums hospital or clinic from the coders so that they get to the physicians and if a follow up addendum needs to be sent have that processed also. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, outlook, word, etc)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma
  • Experience in physician billing or coding preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited medical billing/coding program preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicare provider requirements preferred
  • Experienced in MS Office programs Excel, Adobe, Word, Outlook and must be internet savvy.
  • Attention to minute detail
  • Medical Terminology background or course preferred

  • Ability to sit for up to eight (8) hours a day
  • Use of hands, fingers, and sense of feeling in order to keyboard at computer terminal
  • Visual abilities to work at computer terminal
  • Fingering skills to work at a computer terminal for up to eight (8) hours a day
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and kneel to find and return patient charts
  • Ability to hear and understand instructions given and to give instructions to others 
  • Ability to speak clearly
