Description

Iowa Orthopedic Center is seeking a Patient Account Specialist to join our team. As a Patient Account Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our billing team, ensuring the efficient monitoring of Accounts Receivable, resolving rejections and denials, and working closely with patients to ensure timely payment receipt. Our full-time position is Monday through Friday, with clinic hours. After completing the training period, this position offers a hybrid work arrangement, but it's essential that you reside within a 2-hour radius of the Des Moines metro area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for assigned insurance payer claim follow-up
  • Denial worklog appeals and adjustments
  • Take patient phone calls regarding balances
  • Submit refunds to patients and insurance
  • Answer insurance questions from other departments
  • Maintain insurance reference sheets
  • Assist in typing and updating procedures for the department
  • Work Clearinghouse rejections
  • Carry out special projects and duties as assigned

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, outlook, word, etc) 
  • Customer Service Skills by phone and in person
  • Knowledge of daily, monthly, yearly process of the insurance patient account representative position 
  • Knowledge of CPT/ ICD-9/ HCPC with regards to auditing accounts for correct reimbursement
  • Ability to utilize web tools, fee schedules, and Tiger files to work accounts efficiently and timely

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma with four years of accounts receivable/insurance experience – or – 
  • Associates Degree in Business or Insurance with two years of medical billing and/or insurance experience, preferred
  • Possession of the ability to maintain composure when confronted with fast paced and stressful situations 
  • Knowledge of medical records and practice management computer systems (Currently: NextGen)
