Summary

Plan, organize, control, and direct the Health Services of the charter and review, develop, and communicate health policies to others. Responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive health services program.

Education/Credentials

  • Master's of Science in Nursing, Preferred
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Texas (Registered Nurse)
  • National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) or Nurse Practitioner certification
  • Certified Nurse Administrator (CNA) by the American Nurses Association

Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of approved principles and practices for school health services.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, and policies related to school health services.
  3. Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge with computer software, such as Microsoft Office.
  5. Demonstrated ability to analyze health situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Determines the goals of the health services programs in conjunction with department administrative staff.
  2. Establishes the organization and determines the priority of allocation of resources to achieve the school health program goals in a cost-effective manner.
  3. Prepares plans, budgets, reports, activities, and evaluations of the program for administrators.
  4. Serves as technical advisor to administration regarding policies and procedures on student and employee health including, but not limited to management of serious physical problems, health evaluations, communicable disease control, environmental hazards, first aid, accident prevention, emergency care and emergency preparedness.
  5. Represents the school health program in discussions and collaborative working arrangements with community agencies and organizations.
  6. Coordinates health service to students with other departments including, but not limited to special education, human resources, safety, PEIMS, construction, finance, leadership, physical education, food services, counseling.
  7. Ensures adequate communication between the charter and primary care physicians or other medical specialists with regard to treatment plans for students and employees.
  8. Keeps abreast of current trends in nursing and health care literature.
  9. Consults with medical consultants as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises assigned staff.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the Dallas, Tarrant and Houston Areas is integral to this job.
