International Fresh Produce is Hiring a Remote Food Safety Manager - Bilingual English/Spanish

Position Summary

The bilingual Food Safety Manager provides strategic input and operational execution of training, technical content and regulatory resources. The role pursues partnerships and funding opportunities to allow the development and expansion of IFPA food safety, quality, and regulatory resources and training.

Position Responsibilities

  • Manages food safety and quality technical resource (guidance documents, white papers, one-pagers) (40%)
    • With direction from staff subject matter experts, works with FS Council members to draft food safety technical and policy guidance documents, white papers, comments etc. and manages the stakeholder/member input process to finalize documents.
    • Works with the marketing manager to effectively disseminate documents and deliverables to appropriate audiences worldwide.
    • Actively seeks out opportunities to derivatize content and deliverables to increase the reach and applicability to the breadth of IFPA members.
    • Supports the VP, Regulatory Compliance & Global Food Safety Standards and Director, Food Safety & Quality, in the strategic identification of financially sustainable opportunities to deliver food safety, quality, and related technical training on a global scale.
  • Supports food safety, quality and regulatory outreach and trainings (30%)
    • Works with staff and allied industry partners to promote food safety education programs and ensure successful events.
    • Provides ongoing management of existing programs and trainings, and other food safety, quality, regulatory or related technical education.
      • Serves as internal staff contact, coordinating with the education, meetings, sales, marketing, and membership teams.
      • Responsible for registering courses with 3rd parties as needed, sending materials to participants, ensuring attendee participation in virtual sessions and online assignments as applicable, and gathering program feedback, etc.)
      • Shares on-site and virtual support duties with the Food Safety Support Coordinator, meetings team, and/or education team, as appropriate.
    • Assists in development and implementation of new food safety, quality and regulatory educational offerings, and revision/ refreshing of current programs.
      • Gathers and/or analyzes market data to identify emerging topics for which training, and or/webinars should be developed, and proposes these to the Chief Food Safety & Regulatory Officer and education team.
  • Advances IFPA’s food safety and quality efforts globally (15%)
    • Expands access to IFPA food safety resources by identifying, with VP, Regulatory Compliance and Global Food Safety Standards and Global Insights team, priority food safety and quality topics in various countries.
    • Adapts and translates existing IFPA technical resources for priority regions.
    • Pursues partnerships, funding opportunities, and other novel approaches to support the development of new food safety resources for members around the globe.
    • Supports VP, Regulatory Compliance and Global Food Safety Standards to support member questions on regulatory requirements both domestic and international.
    • Builds and maintains relationships with global membership as well as regulatory and academic partners to support education and outreach efforts in prioritized regions.
    • Serve as staff liaison to food safety volunteer committees.
  • Increases exposure and member value related to food safety, quality and regulatory (15%)
    • Represents the association at in-person and virtual events.
    • Assists in the execution of enhanced member offerings related to food safety, quality, and regulatory (e.g., networking events, visits with regulators/policymakers, programs, meetings, and conferences, etc.).
    • Supports the membership team to solicit and engage prospective or new members of the association with an interest in food safety, quality, regulatory, and related areas.

Miscellaneous Position Information

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree & 5 years’ experience (or combination of equivalent education & experience), ideally with a focus in food science, food safety, public health, or related field.
  • Must be bilingual in English/Spanish communication, both spoken and written.
  • Familiarity with the produce industry, food safety, quality, and /or regulations (domestic and/or international).
  • Superb written and oral communication in English and Spanish highly desired.
  • Ability to handle multiple ongoing projects in fast-paced environment and prioritize competing priorities.
  • A customer-service oriented approach and can-do attitude; mission driven and intrinsically motivated.
  • Ability to work independently on projects, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory topics into practical information.
  • Grant writing experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Completion of PSA Grower Training, PCQI, FVSP, or other relevant food safety certificate programs is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Zoom, with ability to quickly adapt to using new programs.

  • Growth and expansion of food safety resources accessible to a global membership, increasing member engagement and contributing to the associations’ bottom line.
  • Provide consistent, well-attended food safety programming with positive feedback from participants and sponsors.
  • Active engagement of food safety-oriented members in priority regions.
  • Development and implementation of new food safety programming that reflects the needs of members and serves as a useful resource to the industry.

Travel

Business related travel required on average 9 times per year.

Location

This position can be located anywhere in the US but must be able to work within the Eastern Standard Time Zone business hours.
