Integration Charter Schools is Hiring a 2024-2025 Dean of School Culture Near Staten Island, NY

Integration Charter School is dedicated to providing innovative pathways to college that fully integrate students living with emotional challenges and others with special needs. In building a family of associated schools that share this common mission, ICS strives to fill gaps in public education. When fully realized, ICS, in conjunction with local public schools, will provide Staten Island parents of special needs children with an array of options which is richer than that enjoyed by any other community in the United States.

ICS seeks a Dean of School Culture to work in collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal to create and uphold strong school culture at ICS. We define strong school culture by our values: Courage, Community, Teamwork and Integrity. We seek a Dean who can embody these values while upholding our whole-school expectations for student behavior to ensure a safe, calm, joyful, and equitable environment in which students can learn and thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe learning environment, supporting staff and students to build strong relationships and contribute to a thriving classroom culture through consistent procedures and routines, and utilizing whole-school systems and protocols to uphold expectations.
  • Assist in the development of school events, traditions, and culture initiatives - including creating and maintaining a school-wide Culture Calendar and ensuring events celebrate and reward student growth and achievement
  • Build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents/guardians. Work in partnership with families to ensure consistent support of all students.
  • Oversee the consistent, equitable, and fair administration of PBIS behavior systems, including tracking of student behavior data in PowerSchool/Kickboard
  • Regularly monitor Tier 1 behavior data to norm on consistent responses to behavior and provide feedback to staff members
  • Hold students accountable for behavior through execution of school consequence systems such as lunch reflection and/or after-school reflection, as well as restorative tasks
  • Implement and follow policies and procedures for student uniforms/dress code, ensuring that the uniform policy executed with fidelity for 100% of students
  • Lead and monitor whole school systems, including arrival, dismissal, and a safe and efficient lunch for all grade levels, providing feedback to staff and students as needed
  • Keep up to date in response to Dean Referral texts and/or emails, and respond to Dean Referral text notifications, in person, in a timely manner
  • Track/log all dean referral and suspension data in electronic platform (i.e. PowerSchool and/or Kickboard)
  • Dialogue with students on how to support prosocial behaviors/make positive choices
  • Communicate proactively to “close the loop” with staff members on the interventions a student receives after a Dean Referral
  • Facilitate restorative conversations between students and staff, as well as mediations between peer student groups as needed
  • Facilitate in-school suspensions (ISS) and out-of-school suspensions (OSS), if needed, including coordinating student work and restorative tasks/reflections
  • Schedule and facilitate re-entry meetings with parents/guardians and students returning from suspensions
  • Serve as a first line responder in any incidents where a Crisis Response Team is needed.
  • Handle any other administrative or managerial duties assigned by the Principal or SEL Leadership coach.

Competencies & Qualifications

  • A “whatever it takes” attitude, one that is centered in the notion of “children first.”
  • Bachelor's degree or higher. (Graduate degree or administrative certification is welcomed, but not required.)
  • 3 years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of organizational skills; detail-oriented with ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment
  • Thorough understanding of best practices for middle and high school.
  • Understanding of school student-achievement data and New York Charter School Standards
  • Ability to use tech platforms such as Kickboard, PowerSchool, Google Drive to track data and communicate effectively with the school community
  • A deep belief that every child can succeed, and a willingness to uphold high expectations for students, staff, and oneself to ensure that students are set up for success
  • Ability to model social-emotional skills such as, willingness to take feedback, hear new perspectives, and try new things in support of student growth
  • Willingness to engage in professional learning and development around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Leadership Mindset: takes ownership of creating a thriving, joyful school community rooted in ICS Core Values, and modeling that for others.
