What will you do?

The ATDM Precision Manufacturing Lab Technician will require a driven individual to assist with an accelerated, short-term program in advanced manufacturing. Duties may include but are not limited to lab setup, maintaining inventory, preventative maintenance of equipment, supporting curriculum development and assisting with instruction. This position may require travel and work on nights and weekends.

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.

  • Precision Machining Technology Diploma (or equivalent) and relevant occupational experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Creative thinking/problem solving attitude
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Technical math proficiency
  • Blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation
  • Bench inspection using precision measuring hand tools
  • CAD/CAM software applications
  • Programming, set-up and operation of CNC machine tools
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NIMS Level 1
  • Lean and Six Sigma
  • Measuring tool calibration
  • CMM programming and operation
  • Multi-axis machining
  • Advanced tooling practices
  • Experience with additive manufacturing slicing software
  • Experience with additive manufacturing (3D-Printing) metals/polymers

Why is the position open?

Because of the growth of our campus through success in our many programs, we’re adding more Instructors to our team. Due to the success of our Manufacturing Advancement team in executing the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program in partnership with the Department of the Navy, this is a new position that is funded by a federal contract. The position is funded through June 2025. IALR will continue to request funding beyond 2025.
