Indianapolis Public Schools is Hiring a Cybersecurity Specialist Near Indianapolis, IN

Purpose of Position/Summary:

The Cybersecurity Specialist serves as a vital component to the ever growing technical environment of IPS. The ideal candidate will have the ability to blend technical, organizational, business and cybersecurity skill sets to assess and maintain security controls. The Cybersecurity Specialist will be primarily responsible for providing assistance in implementing and maintaining IT security systems and software. Experience in preparing and leading assessments which require strong attention to detail in reviewing system documentation and creating reports. Leading or assisting with risk assessments or cyber security related initiatives and projects as delegated. Experience in multiple platforms such as operating systems, software, communications, and network protocols. Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53, NIST 800-30, NIST 800-39, ISO 27001, ISO 27005, ISO 31000. Familiarity with Cloud Platforms and the shared responsibility model of cloud platforms. Familiarity with FISMA. Experience assessing cloud based information systems. Experience with MS Project or other project management tools. Strong technical experience which include reporting and representing findings from technical tests, and the ability to communicate technical terminology to non technical audiences.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Reviews system security plans and related documentation to ensure compliance with NIST and cybersecurity standards.
  • Project planning
  • Ability to coordinate with peers, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to communicate with SME, stakeholders, and other key personnel
  • Perform in depth research and analysis on emerging threats and vulnerabilities
  • Reporting Metrics
  • Experience working with security related concepts across different system tiers to include applications, operating systems, network infrastructure and cloud services.
  • Experience with risk based control assessment methodologies, including threat vectors and events.
  • Risk analysis, mitigations, evaluations, and remediations
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and communication skills
  • CISSP or equivalent experience- willingness to work towards the certification
  • Knowledge of TTP’s and other threat methodologies
  • SIEM security alerts analysis and remediation
  • EDR security alerts and remediation
  • Investigate IOC’s such as phishing attempts, breaches, and other security incidents
  • Document incidents and generate reports for team members and key staff for lessons learned after actions
  • Proactively search for IOC’s within environment
  • Ability to conduct post incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting
  • Work independently as well as with the cybersecurity team to help develop security policies and implement them
  • Lead Cyber Security Awareness / Cyber Security Compliance Program
  • Collaborate with other cross functional teams as necessary to ensure comprehensive
  • security measures are implemented
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and communicate them to appropriate stakeholders
  • Audit security configurations
  • Contribute to process and product development


Qualifications

This role provides privileged access to the inner workings of the Indianapolis Public Schools

technology and to highly sensitive information and data. The successful candidate will be

discrete, high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator,

highly-organized and committed to the vision and values of Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS). In

addition, the following standards will generally define the successful incumbent:

Master’s degree preferred, preferably in computer science, information security or cybersecurity.

5 years of relevant experience. Professional certification (e.g. Security , Network , Project ,

CISA, CASP ,CYSA , Microsoft certifications) preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and

among a diverse group of peers, vendors, and stakeholders

  • Direct product strategy for specific security products (new or established)
  • Enhance contribution of other associates through consultation, training, collaborations, etc.
  • Provide advice and guidance on action plans for risk events and incidents based on incident type, severity, and TTP’s.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong analytical, technical and writing capabilities;
  • Experience with a SIEM tool and ability to leverage that knowledge within Microsoft’s version. Experience setting up alerts, dashboards, and data visualizations is also desired.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing NIST guidance including writing security plans, Contingency plan, and Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.
  • Close attention to detail coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment;
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively multitask

Cross Functional Collaboration & Team Supports

  • Strategic thought partner of school leaders with a high volume of new teachers
  • Collaborate across functional teams to coordinate district-wide onboarding
  • Utilize national research-standards for professional learning to facilitate and support planning at the school, learning community and district-levels
  • Collaborate with all schools and other central office departments to develop leaders
  • across the division.
  • Maintain records and make reports as directed by the Director of Professional Learning
  • Maintain clear and timely communication relative to all areas of assigned responsibility
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from administrators, teachers, and various stakeholders within IPS and from other schools
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

There will be no supervisory responsibilities, nor any direct reports.


Personal Work Relationships:

The individual in this position works with a wide range of non-public school staff, public school

staff, service staff, administrators and service providers on diverse problems encountered in IPS

in a moderate capacity to fulfill its duties. The individual must possess and employ a variety of

personal and interpersonal skills in the discharge of the position’s responsibilities. This position

requires a positive attitude when dealing with all staff and non-public constituents. Good

judgment, discretion and individual initiative are necessary for the effective discharge of the

position’s significant responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

This position is eligible for remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and team needs.

In-person quarterly meetings, and other business needs will dictate in-person work as assigned.
