Indianapolis Public Schools is Hiring a Vocational Teacher - Television Broadcasting Near Indianapolis, IN

JOB SUMMARY:

The Television Broadcasting Instructor will provide project-based learning experiences for high school students interested in the field of television and video production. Instructs students in all phases of video/television production including, but not limited to, sound, lighting, and camera operation and maintenance, studio operations, production preparation, broadcast engineering, related computer applications, and specialized applications related to news, sports, and taping. Maintains all equipment provided for use in instructing the Television Broadcasting pathway. Responsible for writing the curriculum to align with the CTE Next Level Programs of Study - Radio and Television standards and dual credit standards with partnering universities.


QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively. Have a minimum of five years of experience in the industry. The candidate must be knowledgeable about current broadcasting production procedures. Prefer experience teaching in a high school or career center setting.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Must be eligible for an Indiana Workplace Specialist license in Radio and Television grades 9-12. Candidate must have verifiable occupational experience in a related field meeting

  • 5,000 hours (2.5 years experience) in the last five years OR
  • 4,000 hours in the past 10 years with one of the following:
  • Occupational licensure
  • Completion of an accredited 2-year or higher degree in the specific certification area
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or internship program


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provide detailed and regular feedback to parents on student achievement and concerns

2. Maintain student records for attendance, grades, discipline, and student certification

3. Plan and deliver pathway curriculum in a highly engaging classroom and studio

4. Assist with maintaining equipment and resources required to meet the objectives of the course

5. Supervise and guide students in an on-campus television broadcasting studio

6. Create and maintain a positive learning environment for students

7. Assist students with creating scripts to demonstrate an understanding of the scripting process

8. Apply and adapt on-air techniques to produce a quality program

9. Analyze inventions and technical and social developments that led to the creation of radio and television in a broadcast environment

10. Teach ethical decision-making as it relates to the industry

11. Organize and serve on Television Broadcasting Advisory Board

12. Engage industry partners to serve as advisors, guest speakers, mentors, and host student interns

13. Deliver instructional requirements for students to obtain dual credit for pathway completion

14. Follow building and district rules and procedures when performing assigned responsibilities

15. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships by practicing good human relations with students, staff, parents, and the community partners

16. Other duties as assigned by the CTE Pathways Director


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities for adults, but is expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring student behavior and activities both in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day and on learning excursions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
