The Associate Counsel (AC) will handle a wide range of risk and compliance matters for the clinical and non-clinical functional units at the organization, including Medical and Nursing Services, People and Culture, Finance, Information Technology, Research, Maintenance, and Security.
● Law school graduate and current admission to the New York State Bar.
● 2-4 years of post-graduate legal experience in a New York not-for-profit organization or government agency, interpreting and
applying federal and New York State healthcare law and policy.
● Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
● Strong work ethic and initiative, and sound and creative judgment.
● Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and
orientations.
● Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
● Willingness to travel throughout the New York metropolitan area.
● Experience working with addiction treatment programs and 42 CFR Part 2.
● Experience working with New York State agencies: Department of Health, Office of Addiction Services and Supports, Office of
Mental Health, and the New York State Justice Center; with federal agencies: Department of Health and Human Services and
Drug Enforcement Agency.
● Experience with federal and New York State labor and employment law.
● Experience working with union employees and collective bargaining agreements.
