Position Overview: We are seeking a High School English Teacher who is passionate about literature and writing and is skilled in inspiring students to appreciate the richness and diversity of the English language. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in English literature and composition, along with the ability to integrate Christian perspectives into discussions about texts and themes. This role involves teaching students in grades 9 through 12, fostering their analytical, creative, and critical thinking skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Instruction:

  • Design and deliver an engaging English curriculum that covers literature, composition, and language arts, integrating Christian values and perspectives.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies to cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.

Literary Analysis and Critical Thinking:

  • Guide students in the analysis of literature from various genres, periods, and cultures.
  • Encourage critical thinking and thoughtful discussion on themes, characters, and narratives.

Writing and Composition:

  • Teach writing skills, from foundational grammar and syntax to advanced composition and rhetoric.
  • Provide feedback and support to help students develop their voice and writing style.

Classroom Management:

  • Create a positive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to support a focused and productive learning atmosphere.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods, providing constructive feedback to support growth and improvement.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, maintaining open communication with parents and guardians.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and subject matter expertise.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in secondary English/language arts.
  • Proven experience teaching English at the high school level.
  • Strong knowledge of English literature, composition, and language arts curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for teaching and mentoring youth.
  • A committed Christian who actively lives out their faith and seeks to integrate it into teaching and interactions with students.
