Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30,000 Individuals in Custody and another 10,000 employees. We are looking for a talented, positive and creative thinking individual to join our team. Position duties will include paying a large variety of invoices including everything from Payroll documents, Repair and Maintenance, Fuel Expenses and even Travel Vouchers. Additionally, the person selected for this position would also have contact with the facilities to provide feedback on questions they have on how to process a particular type of invoice. Job Responsibilities

  1. Establishes and maintains Accounts Payable accounts for the agencies serviced by Public Safety Shared Services. 
  2. Reconciles SAP and Comptroller system reports.
  3. Answers high technical and complex inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices for Accounts Payable systems and requirement.
  4. Responds to management inquiries.
  5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
  2. Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
  2. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook and/or similar type of computer programs.
  3. Prefers at least one (2) year of experience working with office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
  4. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience evaluating accounting problems of moderate difficulty such as rectifying discrepancies between financial system reports and developing a plan to resolve the issue.
  5. Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with multiple projects and serving as a lead worker and/or supervisor over staff.
  6. Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience performing detailed work involving application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems such as with a reconciliation process.
  7. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting finance laws and applying them appropriately to the vouchering process.
  8. Prefers working knowledge of the State of Illinois travel regulations.
