Schedule: M-F, 8.30a.m. 4.30p.m, including occasional evening and weekend work and occasional travel coverage based on seasonal business needs/position requirements.

Summary of position:

The Internship Program Advisor is responsible for providing top quality pre-departure advising, preparation, and service for IES Abroad Internship students, their families and home school personnel. This person serves as the expert on several IES Internships programs for both external and internal audiences; assists with occasional coverage for recruiting work and provides high quality service to U.S. colleges and universities in the IES Abroad Consortium; and may assist with research, brainstorming and execution of many team projects.

Essential job responsibilities & duties:

  • Serve as Internship Programming department expert on several IES Internships programs
  • Provide friendly, accurate, and prompt pre-departure support and information to IES Internships students, parents, and education institution staff through written and verbal (telephone) communications
  • Maintain excellent records of all communications
  • Utilize various database and web technology in all daily functions
  • Provide call and email coverage for team members when needed
  • Liaise with other departments to answer student questions and monitor any internship program changes/enhancements
  • Communicate program changes/enhancements to all team members and relevant departments
  • Participate in editing and updating student pre-departure materials for each enrollment cycle
  • May give small group presentations and host info sessions for prospective students, current students, and administrators
  • Maintain high levels of student satisfaction as measured by student retention, student satisfaction surveys, student graduation rates and graduation surveys
  • May assist team with event planning for and during internships
  • Act as an essential point of contact with Internship Coordinators at IES overseas Centers
  • Work closely with Assistant Director on gathering data and working on projects as needed
  • Work with Internship Coordinators for all locations to collect internship and host employer data
  • Commit to and demonstrate values and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
  • Assist with regularly updating placement and host employer information in Airtable database from term to term, under guidance of Assistant Director

Additional:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Cover for College Relations Managers at Internship recruiting events, study abroad fairs and other events as needed
  • Any other task or duty as assigned or required

Experience & Qualifications/Skills:

  • Two years' experience in university/college recruitment preferred
  • Experience working in the field of study abroad/international education, internships or a comparable area preferred
  • Knowledge of basic higher education admissions and registration principles, practices and processes
  • Strong interpersonal communication and advising abilities with exceptional customer service focus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
  • A very creative, enthusiastic and proactive attitude is a must
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office, and basic data analysis
  • Experience working with databases, especially within higher education, preferred
  • Experience with mentoring or interacting with student groups is preferred
  • Ability to manage and maintain high call and email volume, and to respond in a timely manner
  • Skilled in handling stressful situations, i.e., advising anxious students and parents
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Takes accountability and responsibility
  • Strong leadership aptitude and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail with the capacity to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to prepare and present effective presentations
  • Familiarity with intercultural competency and international education /study abroad a plus
  • Ability to demonstrate values and promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism required.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language a plus

Education Licenses and/or Certifications etc.:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
