Director of School Culture, Behavior, and Discipline
Department
Role Mission :
As the National Director of School Culture, Behavior, and Discipline, you will be entrusted with the vital responsibility of shaping and implementing strategies to cultivate positive school environments, foster healthy behavior among students, and uphold disciplinary standards nationwide. This position requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of educational psychology, social-emotional learning, and effective discipline practices. Your role will involve strategic leadership, policy development, professional development, data analysis, community engagement, equity and inclusion initiatives, crisis management, and staying abreast of research and innovation in the field. The National Director will lead on the designation of the positive behavior system IDEA will adopt to help support a positive, restorative culture across schools throughout the district. In addition, the National Director is responsible for ensuring that IDEA Public Schools is in compliance with all state requirements and policies as it pertains to behavior and discipline management. The Director will work with key business partners to support schools in the implementation of behavior and discipline systems such as the Schools TEAM, Human Assets, and Information Technology.
This is a position for the 24-25 school year with a target start date of July 1, 2024.

This is a full-time hybrid position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa) , Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth ), or who are willing to relocate .
Travel Expectations: Approximately 20% travel to visit states, regions, and schools.
What Youll Do Accountabilities
Essential Duties:
Lead the vision and strategy to ensure all IDEA schools meet the expectations of being a positive, inclusive, restorative school
  • Design the vision for the positive behavior support system that will be implemented across all schools, across states for IDEA
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive vision and strategy for promoting positive school culture, behavior management, and discipline practices across diverse educational settings.
  • Lead the review and updating of the student code of conduct in partnership with the IDEA legal team for each state we operate in- maintains in a yearly basis
  • Lead initiatives to create supportive and inclusive learning environments that foster student well-being and academic success
  • Partner with the Schools Team leaders to design the scope and sequence of training for Eds, VPs and principals in the new approach to behavior support and discipline management
  • Serve as a consultant to schools in partnership with the legal team when handling disciplinary actions with students
  • Develops the plan to integrate and or enhance the restorative approach to culture, behavior and discipline
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, research findings, and innovations in the fields of school culture, behavior management, and discipline, integrating new knowledge into practice.
Lead the implementation of the new behavior management system- Navigate 360
  • Becomes the system expert and helps design the 3 year roadmap for implementation for IDEA Public Schools
  • Partner with the Information Systems team to set up and manage the online behavior management system
  • Owns communications, resource development and support for stakeholders to adopt and implement positive campus culture plans supported by using the system
Maintain compliance in state reporting codes and policy related to discipline across 4 states
  • Maintains the partnership with the PEIMS and State Reporting team to ensure discipline data is accurate for each state deadline
  • Partners in the creation of training and support materials for schools to follow to maintain compliance in reporting
  • Leads the analysis of behavior management and discipline infractions and management across race and ethnicity and designs specific strategies and tactics to ensure there is equity across all lines of difference
  • Leads data auditing and reporting for the network in current operating mechanisms to increase visibility, consistency and accuracy in data reporting
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate and refine policies and guidelines related to school climate, behavior expectations, and disciplinary procedures, ensuring alignment with best practices and legal requirements
Create and lead the design of training and resources to build the knowledge and skills all stakeholders have in creating a positive school culture
  • Designs and develops high quality professional development training sessions with a strategically planned scope & sequence that are executed with a high level of professionalism and preparation.
  • Collects and analyzes survey data to identify areas of growth to enhance subsequent professional development experiences.
  • Develops and maintains business partnerships with national teams that lead work impacting the roles supported
  • Collaborates with National Student Support Services Team to ensure alignment between campus leadership and regional support
  • Conducts in-field observations (with RSFMs if applicable) of School Counselors & Social Workers to ensure that training session objectives are being executed out in the field and translate to gains in management capabilities and goal attainment

  • Ability to analyze data and use it to inform decisions and actions to meet goals
Experience :
  • Education: Master's degree preferred in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field(not required)
  • Experience: 2 years of full-time people management required; 2 years of coaching and developing adults required
  • Experience with school culture turn-around, implementation practices
  • Experience with indirect (matrixed) management preferred
  • Experience: 6 years of professional experience required
  • Understanding and/or personal experience in the K-12 landscape, especially with charters preferred

Compensation & Benefits :
Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $81,800 and $95,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment .
