Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Employment Type: Full Time Shift: Days, rotating weekends and holidays Position Purpose: Under limited supervision, performs complex lab procedures and assists and supports the Lab Operations Manager in the day-to-day operations as a departmental technical expert. Demonstrates a high level of clinical competence, knowledge, expertise and leadership in at least one department/specialty. What you will Do: Is proficient in computer operation and LIS procedures. Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. PathNet, PowerChart, Word, Excel, Lawson Supply Chain, etc.). Notifies appropriate personnel of unusual problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions and quality control aberrations, in accordance with section policy or procedure. Is skilled in Specimen Acquisition, including Arterial collections. Follows protocol related to Critical Values, Delta Checks, or reporting notations. Contacts the appropriate healthcare provider/personnel with regard to results and for clarification of requests or other routine problems that arise regarding specimens and/or test requests. Calibrates and operates laboratory equipment used in performance of the tests pertinent to the section to which assigned. Competent to calibrate instruments, perform correlation studies on new lots of reagents, accuracy and precision studies for new procedures.. Prepares standards, reagents and other materials used in testing. Participates in CAP Proficiency Testing. Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Is responsible for departmental supply inventory management and strives to be a good steward of reagents, supplies, and disposables. Minimum Qualifications: BA or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or health-related science. Ongoing education, training and certification may be required to meet prevailing regulatory requirements. Must demonstrate a high level of clinical competence, knowledge, expertise and leadership in at least one department/specialty typically achieved by completing a minimum of five plus years of clinical lab experience. MercyOne experience preferred. Must demonstrate competency as a technical expert in a minimum of one laboratory section. Must meet CLIA 493.1489 standards for high complexity testing. MT (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) certification preferred.
