Humane Society of Chittenden County is Hiring a Bookkeeper (Full Charge) Near South Burlington, VT
Position Summary
The Full-Charge Bookkeeper position at HSCC is responsible for managing the full cycle of bookkeeping and accounting activities for the organization ranging from data entry through the monthly close process and preparation of financial reports. He/she is fully committed to implementing the mission, objectives, and goals of this 122 year-old nonprofit organization and helping to maintain a high-performance culture.
Essential Accounting Functions
The general tasks and activities for this position will include, but are not limited to, management of the following:
- Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Daily cash receipts management and bank reconciliations
- Bi-monthly Payroll processing through BambooHR and relevant tax filings
- Shared human resource management duties
- General ledger journal entries and overall maintenance in Quick Books
- Maintaining electronic vendor files, updating information, and properly registering 1099 vendors
- Manages annual budget preparation with staff and maintaining monthly budget oversight
- Cost accounting functions and inventory control for Community Pet Clinic (CPC)
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial and tax reports
- Managing renewal of insurance policies
- Communication with external financial affiliates, vendors, clients
- Assist with the annual financial review/audit and preparation of 990
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Etc.)
- Knowledge of QuickBooks desktop accounting software
- Knowledge of automated payroll systems
- HR experience preferred
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented with excellent time management skills
- Must have a track record of managing multiple, competing deadlines
- Must have a strong level of integrity and confidentiality
- Must be able to collaborate and work in a fast-paced non-profit work environment
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum Associate’s degree in accounting or related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3 to 5 years experience as a full-charge bookkeeper, preferably in a non-profit setting
