Job Description
A leading oil and gas company in Houston, Texas is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, strong technical accounting knowledge, and a proven track record of delivering accurate and timely financial information.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data, including production costs, and reserve estimates.
- Variance Analysis: Analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying key drivers of variances and providing insights to management. Assist in the development of financial models and forecasts to support decision-making processes.
- Fixed Asset Accounting: Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and impairment testing. Maintain accurate records of property, plant, and equipment, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Internal Controls: Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. Conduct periodic reviews and audits to assess compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Ad Hoc Analysis: Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support to management as needed. Participate in special projects and initiatives to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance financial reporting capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred.
- 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in the oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, and industry-specific accounting principles (e.g., successful efforts accounting, full cost accounting).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and meet tight deadlines.
