Window Specialist

SummaryA Window Specialist supports and/or manages multiple fenestration projects. A Window Specialist is competent in all conventional aspects of window materials and opening types; punched windows, window walls, curtain walls, and storefronts. S/he also exhibits a strong understanding of the NYC Energy Code in relation to fenestrations and existing facades, including for historic buildings. The Window Specialist acts relatively independently; supervision and guidance from a Senior Project Manager mainly concerns overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and project planning and budget matters.

Responsibilities

  • Apply sound and diverse knowledge in architecture principles and practices in a broad array of assignments. Provide technical development of various project types; historic preservation, forensic investigation, existing replacement, and new installation, etc.
  • Based on knowledge of current and historic window types, materials, installation, and products used with New York City select, evaluate and implement procedures and techniques to be used on projects. Seek technical guidance on unusual or complex issues
  • Assist in planning and developing projects of medium to large scale scope. Responsible for the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to assure efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects
  • Execute projects independently or as part of a small team. Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Participate in all project phases, including; Investigation, Budget Estimating, Contract Document Preparation, Bidding and Negotiation, Municipal Filing, Construction Administration, and Close-out:
    - Prepare preparation of project documents, including but not limited to; meeting minutes, field reports, investigation reports, cost estimates, project specifications, construction drawings in AutoCAD, and hand sketches 
    - Write and present technical letters, reports, and proposals in clear articulate language
    - Create new drawings and modify existing drawings in AutoCAD with speed and efficiency
    - Maintain positive client relationship. Interact with clients and contractors. Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and consultants at regular intervals. Attend board meetings when required
  • Perform and/or oversee performance of building site inspections:- From the ground, the roof, from lifts, from suspended scaffolding and from supported (pipe frame) scaffolding
    - Suspended scaffolding inspections range from approximately 6 to 60 stories
    - From supported scaffolding inspections range from approximately 2 to 20 stories
  • Enforce quality control with contractor, and train team members to perform same
  • Ensure project specifications and drawings are being adhered to
  • Anticipate and trouble-shoot project-specific problems and develop and implement solution in timely manner. Independently solve typical problems, seek guidance as needed on complex problems encountered
  • Actively participate in a teamwork environment
  • Effectively manage time to perform work duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Effectively manage resources to meet project schedule and budget
  • Keep current on building codes governing New York City. Awareness of historic building codes
  • Navigate the public review process and regulatory agencies governing New York City for project filings
  • Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Obtain and maintain a NYC Department of Buildings recognized 4HR User Supported Scaffolding Certificate and a 16HR User Suspended Scaffold Certificate
  • A Window Specialist can expect to be “in the field” between 25% - 75% of their time during any given week
