Workdays & Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 2pm - 10:30pm, Occasional Weekend/Holidays (Subject to change)
PURPOSE OF DIVISION The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of the Equipment Operation II in the Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to support the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance. The Infrastructure Maintenance business unit ensures the airport maintains its annual operating certificate by performing key maintenance functions as mandated by Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139. Implementing a robust Pavement Management Program, Manage Landside and Airside Mowing Activities. Support the eco-structure of the Airport by Managing Ditch Maintenance and Erosion Programs using Best Management Practices, and other duties as assigned.
"Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required." The Equipment Operator II responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Requirements EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.
Experience RequirementsOne year of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments is required.
License RequirementsMust have valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

Selection/Skills Tests RequiredThe selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test.
SAFETY IMPACT POSITION YES - this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Pay Grade 10 SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

- Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials and equipment.
- Transports materials.
- Cleans and services vehicles and equipment as assigned.
- Operates heavy equipment.
- Maintains a safe and clean work site.
- Repairs and maintains facilities, structures and equipment.
- May perform a series of manual activities, to include mowing, pouring concrete, asphalt, spraying, etc.
- May occasionally supervises crews.
- May assists in preparing reports and forms.
