Hoskinson Contracting is looking for a heavy equipment operator who will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery and equipment on construction sites. These operators play a crucial role in the construction industry by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment to complete tasks such as excavation, grading, trenching, paving, and more. Here is a typical job description for a Construction Equipment Operator:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain heavy construction equipment, ensuring their proper functioning and safety. This includes machines like bulldozers, excavators, loaders, cranes, and forklifts.

  2. Site Preparation: Assist in site preparation by clearing, grading, and leveling the land as needed to create a suitable foundation for construction projects.

  3. Excavation and Trenching: Perform excavation and trenching work as required for various projects, such as laying foundations, utility installations, or pipeline construction.

  4. Material Handling: Load and unload materials, move earth, debris, and equipment, and transport materials and supplies to different areas of the construction site.

  5. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others on the job site. This includes regular equipment inspections and maintenance.

  6. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure its optimal performance. Report any issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

  7. Communication: Maintain effective communication with construction supervisors, coworkers, and other team members to coordinate tasks, share information, and work together efficiently.

  8. Problem Solving: Identify and address any obstacles or challenges that arise during equipment operation, such as changing weather conditions, unforeseen obstacles, or equipment malfunctions.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CDL Class A preferred but not required.
  • Certification or training in heavy equipment operation is often preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in various weather conditions and often in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.
  • Proficiency in equipment operation and maintenance.
