Horst Group is Hiring a Pipe Layer Near North, MD

Horst Excavating is looking for experienced and skilled commercial excavating Pipe Layers and Lead Pipe Layers to work on numerous projects throughout South Central, Pennsylvania and North East, Maryland.

Who we are:

The Horst Group consists of 5 separate entities, Horst Insurance, Horst Property Management, Horst Cottages, Horst Excavating and Horst Construction. This position will work solely for Horst Excavating.

Horst Excavating has been in business for over 60 years. Our award-winning team's vision is to continually expand our site development business through customer-centered quality work. For us, it is more than just earthwork. Based out of Lancaster, PA most of our projects are within a 75 mile radius of the main office, however we do provide commercial excavating services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The markets we serve include senior living, education, industrial, manufacturing, religious, performing arts, and various other commercial endeavors.

Job Expectations
:

Apply your trade of installing various types of pipe such as storm sewers, sanitary sewers, drains, and water mains and perform labor related tasks using excavation equipment and tools.

Self-Perform Skills Expectations

As a crucial part of Horst Excavation's Self-Perform team, you'll be expected to perform the following with the highest degree of precision and quality:

  • Install and repair various types of sanitary, water, and storm sewer structures pipe systems.
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seals joints using cement or glue.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Utilize instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.
  • Drill and tap holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Perform on-site labor work as needed; includes operating jackhammer and tamper, checking grade elevations, installing pipe and on-site sewer system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires basic academic education, through at least 8th grade (or equivalent). Vocational training preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in English.
  • Minimum six months of general labor experience in excavation required.
  • Basic pipe laying skill required.
  • Must have ability to apply basic shop mathematics.
  • Basic skill level in use of measuring instruments and simple tools required. Proficiency in use of transits and lasers a plus.
  • A current valid driver's license is required.
  • Will be required to obtain all clearances required to work on school projects, including but not limited to the Pennsylvania and Federal criminal history records, fingerprint submission, Act 34 background check, and Act 151 child abuse clearances
