Horizon Montessori Public Schools is Hiring an Assistant Principal Near Texas, TX

Job Title: Assistant Principal Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal Date Revised: March 2022

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Summary:

Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations. Oversee assigned student activities

and services.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Master's degree from an accredited university
  • Two years’ experience as a classroom teacher
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certified Texas Teacher Support and Evaluation System (T-TESS) appraiser

  4. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  5. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  8. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  9. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and ability to implement policies and procedures.
  10. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  11. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, parents, employees, and community members.
  12. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  13. Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness.
  14. Ability to assist in coordinating and/or providing virtual/distance learning to students via Google Classroom and other multimedia options in response to pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

  1. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed.
  2. Promote the use of technology in teaching methods.
  3. Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
  4. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.

School/Organizational Improvement

  1. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  2. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  3. Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission under principal supervision.
  4. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  5. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  6. Communicate effectively with students and staff.

Personnel Management

  1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
  2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  1. Oversee campus operations in principal's absence.
  2. Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  3. Oversee reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify and address issues.
  4. Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  5. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
  6. Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  7. Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
  8. Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.

Student Management

  1. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  2. Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  3. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  4. May act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  5. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

School/Community Relations

  1. Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

 Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.
  2. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  3. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  4. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by principal or central administration.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises and evaluates the work performance of personnel as assigned by school principal or central administration.

Equipment Used:

Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment and peripherals.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with frequent interruptions. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day and the location of the activity. Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk, and stand, occasional bend/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting and travel from one building to another or to other sites. Light to moderate lifting is required (less than 15 lbs.); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior. This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours. The employee may work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather). There may be occasional districtwide and statewide travel. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

In accordance with TEA regulations, STET/HMPS will provide virtual/distance learning when it is necessary. This platform will be conducted either from a classroom or a location other than the school building, as approved by the Superintendent. Employee will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
